Like everything in this world, I think it’s situation dependent.
I traveled for work, and would live out of a hotel room for 4-5 weeks at a time. I have a gaming laptop that doesn’t fit in the bin while going through TSA. Always got comments about it. But damn, if I didn’t love setting it up in my hotel room and leaving it there during my tour and being able to play some games during my evenings.
Social status (in my own words) is the idea that a person has a relative social worth in a certain context. For example in a class room a teacher has a high social status and therefore must be listened to. On the other hand, if that same teacher was stopped by the police for speeding, they would not have a relatively low status...
Well, what’s wrong with Bitcoiners trying to make their currency widely accepted too?
that it’s backed by yet another widely accepted from of currency
So it’s turtles all the way down, is what you’re saying?
(usually; gold)
Not the USD, which is the worlds most widely accepted currency.
This is all gross-oversimplification, I realize, and I don’t particularly want to get into the weeds on this topic, because it’s only of passing interest to me.
Yes, I agree that this is gross-oversimplification. But if you don’t want to get into the weeds, why make a claim about something you don’t understand and don’t have interest in?
On the computer thread, changing the keys on their keyboard is also fun. Works better if they are a touch typist as well, as they may go several hours/days before noticing, until they have to look for that one special key. :)
In all seriousness, there is a radio lab episode out there talking about tiny black holes. Apparently, they might be all over the universe, and can sometimes hit earth, create a massive crater that has no meteorite debris, exit the other side of earth, and could be an explanation for all the dark matter around the universe!
It was a really fascinating episode, and I highly recommend giving it a listen!
I don’t have a great answer for you why, but heat must be radiated away from space ships faster than you might think. They have heaters on them to keep them warm. Think Apollo 13 when they turn off all their power, and it gets cold.
The ISS is traveling through a decent amount of atmosphere still, hence they need to boost their orbit occasionally. That atmosphere is probably plenty to dissipate WAY more heat than sound creates.
That doesn’t explain deep space ships… But they do clearly radiate heat, if not slowly. But probably faster than what little heat sound creates. (Also think of the cooling phase that James Webb space telescope went through)
Learned the term recently and really enjoy it, subscription fatigue is the feeling we all have had now where we are just over how everything is subscription based....
I feel like I have to beg my friends to use my Plex server. Like what the hell? I’m offering you ~1000 movies free, and all you have to do is register for a Plex account, but for some reason registering for Plex is way too hard and confusing (even though it’s the same process as any other service).
Whatever, guess I’ll enjoy my movies myself then. 🤷
In digital devices, we have pixels, which represent the smallest unit of size anything can be in a digital program. Something that is a single pixel in size in every dimension cannot get smaller. Depending on the software, though, sometimes their shape is not consistent with one another; a pixel could be square, hexagonal, etc....
Seems to my ignorant eyes that we could always somehow split the power received into more manageable units, even if it has to be splitted a million times, 🤷♂️.
I’m starting to create managed user accounts for my two daughters on plex. They are 7 and 4, so movies I’m giving them access to consist mostly of Pixar/Disney type stuff. Well, when I log into their users, it has recently added movies and TV shows, which show appropriatle the things I’ve given access to from my server....
I’ve been flipping between Jerboa and liftoff. Unless I’m missing something Jerboa doesn’t have the downvote arrow. Not that I ever downvote anyway. But besides that, I think I like the feel of Jerboa better.
Sort options seem better in liftoff though (again, unless I’m missing something in Jerboa).
I’ll probably give infinity a try now because of this post.

How would you expain the idea of social status to a child? (en.wikipedia.org)

Where does the sound go to when you’re in a spaceship in space?...

What subscription finally gave you "subscription fatigue"?

What shape would the universe's equivalent of a single pixel of 3D space be?

Isn't it weird that we'll never (ever?) talk about lightnings as a potential renewable energy source ?
