Does anyone know where the normal people are going though? I suspect Mastodon and tiktok? At least the young ones.
All this, Ryan said, explains why the trolls “are getting more extreme and desperate.” The pool of people available to get attention from is shrinking, so the only way to keep the engagement rates as high is to say wilder and nastier things. But eventually, there will be so few people on Twitter left to aggravate that even white nationalist dogwhistling and Holocaust denialism won’t work.
So you tried it? I haven’t known anyone that have tried it. A journalist said that the existing users are rude about newbies because they want it to themselves but I’ve seen a lot of bad reporting about Lemmy. Did you find it cranky about new users?
I think you’re right, but if an instance is a “bad place,” they would know when to start up a new alt by being triggered by a bunch of places. They could also know when to get upvotes. Oh god, the downvoter crowd could have their own instance.
I just looked it up, so the French use tour for traveling from place to place and a tall thin tower? I obviously don’t know French, I wonder if it’s from touring (as in travel) small thin buildings.
I think there was some vendetta things happening to him for some reason. Is he gay or something? I don’t even know but it really sounds like a set up if you look at the sources from his wikipedia page during that time.

That’s amazing, I hope all journalists and government alerts have their own instance. It’s way better than a blog because it can be updated so easily, they’re used to twitter and their alerts and it’s open to see while they control everything about it. Happy to see it.
Because they can control who is on it, they’re journalists only, and still be out in the open with no sign ins. What would be the benefit of them joining other instances? That would be an odd choice.

You obviously haven’t discovered 4k nature channels on an oled then, I keep it on while I work and then look up and see all kinds of beautiful scenery and it calms me. I’m being legit when I say it’s life changing. The reds and blacks are amazing.
That’s a fantastic video. My only fault is that the space needle and seattle center aren’t dystopian, they’re very humanized when you’re there. That fountain is always packed with kids and adults squealing because they’re trying to chase the water.
I think you’re right in a sense about being alarmist because that’s what they’re trying to do, imo. They know that it isn’t good for you to heat plastic so stop doing that. Also, FDA start studying the shit out of this because even if it’s bad, the scientist doubts they’ll change to something good because it opens themeselves up for litigation from past events. The author doesn’t want this to be a “smoking isn’t bad for you” situation.
Having been part of a couple of subs take off, the key is to engage yourself. If a sub starts or you start it, add content that’s authentic and appropriate and then discuss things. Don’t force it but don’t let someone else do it either. It’s the only way. There were are a ton of dead subs at reddit too, usually because people stopped engaging for whatever reason.
I agree, but it took a bit to understand active vs anything else and subscribed vs. all, etc. I think if there were explainers about switching your viewing and a list of instances’ websites so you could check out the one you want to join by seeing their hot first page, that would be helpful. Also, a list of open source apps. Maybe there should be a welcoming community for people to lemmy? A place where everyone checking it out could go to ask questions and tutorials and stuff. Right now, you kind of have to know lemmy to ask lemmy.
How do you sort your posts in subscribed communities? I’ve been sorting by active, but I keep seeing older stuff that I’ve already seen. Is there a better way to sort?
I downloaded fedilab from fdroid and it looks on the surface as though it can access instances of the fediverse as well as lots of other stuff - like I can see lemmy.world and lemmy.ml but not lemmy.ee but I’m not sure how to see individual communities - unless there’s a post I can see to follow....
I wasn’t familiar with Fedilab but I’m pretty sure that it’s just a way to see and interact with instances you’ve already joined. I think where you’re getting confused is, you don’t join “The Fediverse” with one instance, they may not communicate well yet. I’m not sure if there are issues with choosing an instance on Lemmy (with the reddit style that might make it confusing) with Pixelfed (where it’s all pictures) and Mastodon (where it’s microblogging). Also, Lemm.ee might be defederated or not able to communicate with all the places you want to go. I would try different types of instances and maybe another instance on lemmy to see if that works. Growing pains.
On that note, another really confusing thing about the fediverse (maybe just lemmy) is that if you want something from another instance, you have to search for it on your instance. This is because they may not have connected or stored that particular info yet, so it has to do a thorough search to connect to it and then you can subscribe. I know they’re working on ways to make this simpler and communicate better, but it’s just not there yet. It’s kind of fun to me to see how everything interacts but it can be weird at first. We’re helping it get better by asking for what we want, the apps have been getting better and better. I find Voyager and Liftoff great apps (both free and open source) to start off with but Liftoff shuts down quite a bit. Each app has things that I want from the other apps, lol. Keep trying different stuff.
I agree, Reddit has a lot of quirks that we all got used to. Everyone is working really hard on making this a viable solution and are moving quickly. I’m already leaning in that direction.

Because people can have their own community, just like on reddit? The only reason on reddit that you saw those redirects was because people got that community name and did it themselves. In a small amount of cases, it might have been for the standard communities that reddit set up in the beginning too, but there should be very few like that.
I see someone said lower down that the one you’re talking about is run by controlling people from reddit, I see options as better to combat that sort of thing.
So everyone can see a form of blue, most being royal blue? That’s super interesting because there’s a saying in art, “If you can’t make it good, make it blue.”

You really should have more than one instance that you can sign up to, it’s a feature here. Voyager and Liftoff are pretty good in the meantime and you can switch instances easily.

Just like on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, etc. The only difference between them and Lemmy is scale. If a worker at any of those wanted to see your pm, they could and have.
I think you’re speaking with people willing to engage and you’re not seeing it. Downvotes don’t mean people aren’t discussing, it means they don’t agree or they think you’re coming from a trolling place.
What about Desantis being authoritarian and creating his own militia for Florida, Trump going after Muslims and other non-white people, trump encouraging his base (all republicans) to perform a failed coup? You seem to be watering down some very serious things on the republican side. I’m glad you’re sending your best efforts, but it’s not going to be enough here, at least right now.
Just a reminder for everyone, not you specifically: Respond once, twice if you absolutely must, to clarify and then you walk away. If you’re explaining over and over, everyone is losing.
