OrangeCorvus, to linux in What makes you not want to use Linux anymore and maybe move back to Windows, MacOS, or TempleOS?

I swear they are using the same *Soon TM as Valve is using with Half-Life 3

OrangeCorvus, to linux in What makes you not want to use Linux anymore and maybe move back to Windows, MacOS, or TempleOS?
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

I always install Linux, 1-2 times per year but in the end I always go back to Windows. I have apps which are Windows only but whenever I want to change display scaling to 125% on Linux, is when I slowly start losing interest in it.

OrangeCorvus, to technology in YouTube's ‘War’ on Adblockers Shows How Google Controls the Internet
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

I cannot watch a video from start to finish anymore. Thanks youtube. Almost every video is filled with bs fluff to reach the 8 minute mark. It annoys me greatly. Maybe also because I am in the industry and I learned in school to not use meaningless shit in my videos.

OrangeCorvus, to technology in Meta's ad-free scheme dares you to buy your privacy back, one euro at a time
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

But will they stop tracking and cross tracking your every move across the web? Because with all the paid options these sites offer I don’t really see a mention of not tracking you. Same back then when Reddit was still alive for me, for the sub they only stopped showing you ads but there was no mention of tracking.

I mean I won’t pay for Facebook ad-free thingy, I only go on the website 2-3 times a month so I could care less.

OrangeCorvus, to europe in Romanian president on Schengen: "A bit depressing" to hear same story again and again from Vienna
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

Your observations are pretty spot on, however the “friend in Russia” will most likely happen when hell freezes over. Russia is pretty hated and almost always was in Romania. What will however happen is the EU support will most likely drop to very low levels.

OrangeCorvus, to steamdeck in Should i wait a Sale to buy the Steam Deck?? | [Discussion]
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

Got a 64GB refurb when they were in stock end of September, honestly I couldn’t tell it was a refurb. It looked like new, the only thing that might have given it away was the carrying case, had a few small smudges but I got a Tomtoc anyway so it didn’t matter anyway.

OrangeCorvus, to europe in PM: Romania will sue Austria because of the Schengen blockade - The Romania Journal
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

It is a legal right, after joining the EU it’s mandatory that you join Schengen. Romania has fulfilled all the requirements since around 10 years.

OrangeCorvus, to technology in X is no longer labeling ads for some users

I don’t know about US but in the EU these things don’t fly.

OrangeCorvus, to privacy in Demanding selfie to unsibscribe
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

That’s stupid and illegal in Europe since you only want to unsubscribe from emails. The few sites for which the unsub button does nothing, I usually contact them and tell them they are breaking the EU law and if they don’t stop, I will report them. Works all the time.

OrangeCorvus, to technology in The EU’s Digital Services Act goes into effect today: here’s what that means
@OrangeCorvus@lemmy.world avatar

Nope, I am mainly subscribed to business channels, like news and other stuff. I don’t really follow youtubers, I think I have around 3-4.

More transparency and more control over which content will get shown to you

So I can block all the “this changes everything”, “incredible thing you did not know”, “mind blowing details about game x” videos from youtube? When I load Youtube I always scroll down on the main page and click don’t recommend this channel on all videos that have titles like that or thumbnails with arrows, red circles or other crap thumbnails. Don’t care what channel it is.
