My main concern is that this is just Facebook Meta utilizing the “Embrace, Extend, Extinguish” strategy that Microsoft used against Netscape in the 90s.

I feel like our small communities here - which are just getting started - are going to be flooded by Threads users who don’t even know what federation is and then all the content, power & control will realistically be in Meta’s hands.

My gut says that is probably Meta’s goal, but what do I know? I’m just some internet person.

@testing Can you repeat your tests regarding tags between kbin and other instances? It should be significantly better ;)

@ernest
thank you! tags from kbin do federate on microblogging fedi - kbin users should use the the tags section rather than the text body though

  1. i also had a look at friendica; sadly, friendica seems not to be capable to pick up tagged posts from kbin > see e.g. https://friendica.opensocial.space/search?tag=kbin > tried my luck at several friendica instances, and every time: no content from kbin
  2. tags in kbin threads do not display on kbin pwa, e.g. https://kbin.social/m/kbinDevlog/t/692551 > on microblogging fedi platforms, i can see three tags: kbin, fediverse, and kbinDevlog for the magazine > with kbin pwa, neither kbin nor fediverse show up

@testing Thanks for the summary. I will check those cases.

What does the "Favorites" feed do? (kbin.social)

I've been using Kbin for a few months now and I didn’t really feel the need to set my #feed to anything besides "Subscribed". I can guess from their names what the "All" and "Moderated" feed are but I have no idea what the #favorites feed does. I've seen that the recently added #collections also use the word "favorite" when...

I know this is a joke but ironically there are already several automated bartending systems out there and being utilised by hospitality companies.

Thank you for the work you've put in, guys. Life can really knock you off your feet sometimes, and I'm pretty sure Hariette has a good reason to be offline now. II really hope everything works out for her and one day she'll be able to come back.

As for myself, at the beginning of the year, I plan to dust off the drawer and return to my mobile client that I started some time ago, and develop it in my free time. If someone likes /kbin feeling, I'm pretty sure they'll also enjoy this app ;)

Will the API be opened on Kbin.social prior to the release of your mobile app, so that other app developers also have a chance to try it out before there's an "official" solution? I feel strongly that having a single developer in control of the only client is going to end up with a lot of people waiting and possibly being disappointed again. Much better to let people experiment early and have several available options.
