Wondering if this is an autism thing, or a me thing:

When they cast an actor in a movie, in a speaking part, but then have someone else sing and the actor just lipsyncs it. It's jarring, it throws me out of the movie and all I can think is "that's not his/her voice, how am I supposed to go along with this?"
We're watching a musical. And an actor is lipsyncing to someone else singing.

what are some of the most common, or most bothersome, false assumptions people make about you?

Don't limit yourself to neurodiversity or any other topic.

  • That I’m yelling/angry. I’m just not good at regulating my voice, in part due to gender related voice dysphoria making me hate paying attention to the sound of my body’s voice.
  • That if I forget something, it’s because I didn’t care about it. ADHD makes it difficult to control what to remember.
  • That if I can’t bring up the effort required to do something, I don’t care enough about it. The real reason is usually a mixture of ADHD executive dysfunction and generally low drive, where I think the low drive is due to gender and species dysphoria induced depression. Especially infuriating because people doubt that I’m “really” trans just because I’m not making the required moves to get hormones. The real reason is that the hurdles and gatekeeping are very demoralizing and suicide feels like an easier option sometimes (especially since gender transition won’t fix my species issues anyway)

I saw a post on another social network that felt a little aggressive about people needing to learn to use tone tags (to which most of the replies were people who had never encountered a tone tag), and I found myself wondering... Do folks find this useful?

Honestly, I have a hard time remembering what they all mean much less use them as an indicator of what tone I should be applying to what I'm reading or writing.

@IPmonger @spika @nddev @actuallyautistic That's why whenever I use a tone tag, I spell it out /likethis

How many fellow Autistics have never lied on a job application, never lied on a CV, never lied on tax forms? 🙋‍♂️

Is doing that expected? Is it required? Is not doing that handicapping us? Do you too feel almost unable to do that?

@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic I would not ever lie on a tax form as that's illegal and would leave me liable for punishment.

With regards to CVs and job applications, I emphasize the good and omit the bad, and explain how some "bad" aspects of me can be neutral or even good.

@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic My favorite toys were anything transportation related (especially buses, trams, trains and traffic signs) and then setting up realistic traffic scenarios and imitating bus announcements

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic I tend to not drink much at work, but I drink a lot of water in the afternoon and evening so I guess it's balanced out in the end
