JimBean, to googlepixel in Please stop following in Apple's footsteps

And the app which enables esim support is proprietary, and sends device identifiers to Google. It’s about control.

JimBean, to accidentalrenaissance in Alehouse Proprietor

Now there’s a photo.

You sound like a really decent, well oriented, and kind bloke with a talent for teaching people stuff and giving well-rounded answers. Well done you.

JimBean, to firefox in Has anyone else found firefox absurdly slow on android?

Been using Fenix since it was Firefox Preview, never noticed any sluggishness. It’s faster than Brave for everything other than colds-starting PWAs.

Too many extensions?

The problem with notifications is mad, tho.

JimBean, to linux in Windows 11 vs Linux supported HW

I don’t mean to be rude, but you are likely the problem—not Linux. If you haven’t tried using them, there are lots of great YouTube tutorials.

JimBean, to memes in Firefox is the only way.

It’s very insecure.

JimBean, to android in How does everyone feel about Google Pixel phones?

Cheers to that mate.

Thank you for the very informative reply! I love Calyx, used it on my OnePlus 8T briefly while they were testing support for it and now it’s running on my (smashed to shit) 4a.

Think I’ll definitely flash it on my P6P as soon as it gets here, thanks to what you and others have said.

The video was very informative, I’d heard about the project leader but never realised just how much of a cry baby he is… Not for me. I listened to an interview with Nick Merrill and really liked the guy’s values.

ProtonAOSP lets you install microG as an unprivileged app, but with signature spoofing. I like that approach, but the location services in Calyx are a bit too useful. Thanks again!

JimBean, to android in Mishaal Rahman: ASUS is NOT killing off bootloader unlocking for its phones

Hell yeah! I imagine they’ll keep coming, soon as bootloader unlocking is available again. I believe the chap who maintains LOS on the Zenfone 8 also owns a ZF9, so you may be in luck… Omni is rock solid though, usually better than LOS!

JimBean, to android in Prepare your Firefox desktop extension for the upcoming Android release

Not really. They announced how to add any extension ages ago, but I’m glad they’ve taken time to get things working properly so it doesn’t feel like a beta anymore.

JimBean, to android in Prepare your Firefox desktop extension for the upcoming Android release

Yes, but no-one should do that if they value stability and security. Nightly is for development, after all!

JimBean, to android in Prepare your Firefox desktop extension for the upcoming Android release

Those that work, yeah ;)

Just add a custom addon collection. The most useful one for me so far has been Mozilla’s translation extension, which they’ve adapted to mobile very well. Oh and libredirect, works perfectly even tho it has the desktop UI

JimBean, to android in Mishaal Rahman: ASUS is NOT killing off bootloader unlocking for its phones

UHHH… it does. There are at least 3 in active development, plus official TWRP which is being constantly updated and one or two kernels including Kirisakura.

JimBean, to android in Big Gboard 13.3 update preps stylus handwriting, mini voice typing UI, gen AI stickers, more

That’s cool. How do you do that?

JimBean, to android in Prepare your Firefox desktop extension for the upcoming Android release

Hell yeah! I’ve been using desktop extensions in Mull for the last year, but this will mean more extensions are actively developed for Android !!

Firefox is so slick on Android.
