I found this scroll that let my wizard learn this spell. It's a Ritual spell. The summoned familiar is an NPC.

Anyone else find this scroll. I was testing uploading an image from kbin to this lemmy community. And it worked.

Here’s a full list of BG3 ritual spells:

Detect Thoughts (Wizard)
Disguise Self (Cleric, Wizard)
Enhanced Leap (Druid, Wizard)
Feather Fall (Wizard)
Find Familiar (Wizard)
Longstrider (Druid, Wizard)
Silence (Cleric)
Speak with Animals (Druid)
Speak with Dead (Cleric)

I play a wizard and can cast any ritual spell I know out of combat without using up a spell cast slot. Even though the spell will list the cost as spell slot 1 or 2, it will cast without using the slot.

Out of combat, you just have to add the ritual spell to prepared spells, cast it then remove it and add another type of spell.

Other classes can add ritual spells as a perk at level 4.

(I made level 4 last night and looked into it when I saw the Ritual Spells perk. Wizards will not need to take this perk. They only need to learn/have ritual spells in their spell books.)

(Thankfully, you can use the launch command --skip-launcher to boot straight into the DX11 version of the game, or use --skip-launcher --vulkan to boot straight into Vulkan.)

And

In terms of overall recommendations then, I'd suggest DirectX 11 is a better choice than Vulkan for most users with Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, especially those with relatively modern CPUs that meet BG3's recommended specifications. While Vulkan did run better in static scenes when CPU-limited, its poorer performance than DX11 in NPC-rich areas is problematic, making DirectX 11 a better choice overall.

Looks like these guys say DirectX 11 is usually the better pick. I've been running Vulkan and the only negative I've seen is there is a large block that will flicker slightly on the right side of the screen in cinematics. I've going to try DirectX 11 and see if I get the same FPS and quality today. Vulkan with DLSS on quality I get around 100+ FPS. I have a Nvidia 3080TI and intel i7 12700KF.

Edit: I'm running the game on a 4k TV with 120hz. Looks great.

No regrets: Gender-affirming chest surgery in adults has long-term satisfaction (arstechnica.com)

People who underwent gender-affirming chest reconstruction surgeries as adults have virtually no regrets years later and overwhelmingly high levels of satisfaction with their decision to have the procedure, according to a study published Wednesday in JAMA Surgery.

Trans people having elective surgeries is healthcare.
I'm a cis male and the only procedure I got that I regret is circumcision and this was not my choice. Let people have choice over their own bodies.

The article has spoilers for act 1.

They may should patch summons. I had Wyll summon a imp like creature and didn't notice it got left behind at an elevator. I entered a fight in a temple far away and then realized the imp wasn't with me. I selected him and tried to get him to the fight, but the summon couldn't open doors.

Could the game developers simply add this toggle for XeSS?

Hairyblue, (edited )
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I am playing Baldur's Gate 3 (can't say enough great things about this game) and they had a toggle in the game setting for upscaling options. And DLSS runs great with my Linux PC. I thought I heard Larian say they are trying to get XeSS too.

You can enable either Nvidia's DLSS or AMD's FSR via the settings menu.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

Is the problem with Intel, Linux, or the game itself?

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I read in a review that there is talk all the time about getting cured of your problem quickly, there really is no time limit and you can enjoy and explore the game until you finally get a cure.

Swen Vincke is great. You can tell he is a true D&D fan and loves to play AND make video games. Salute!

Hairyblue, (edited )
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

Yea he will get indicted again because he did more crimes.

He was telling people at his rally of lies that he just "needed one more indictment" for him to win the presidency in 2024. Going to jail for TRYING to defraud the US doesn't make you president.

I built my Linux gaming PC with 23.04 Ubuntu. It has kernel 6.2. Easy to install. Uses my Xbox and PS5 controller. Runs great with my Nvidia graphics card.

But you may want to try a few different distro and see which one you like.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

Steam Link is great to steam your Gaming PC to where you want to play you games. I use it with my Nvidia Shield to play games in my bedroom.

Have you tried Proton Experimental? Or an older version of Proton.

Hairyblue, (edited )
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I just checked mine and it's running with Proton Experimental. This was turned on with the global setting to use Proton Experimental for all other titles in the compatibility settings.

I launched it and maybe you have to hit the Baldur's Gate button under the tutorial? Then Single Player?

Everyone can overlook something simple. Hope you get it fixed. Let us know.

I've use Ubuntu and a lot of other distros are based on Ubuntu. When I switched from Windows to Linux, I wanted to have the desktop look different from Windows. Some people want that familiar look of Windows. It's a matter of taste.

I tried PopOS, but it's Nvidia driver was behind what Ubuntu was running, so I went back to Ubuntu. But the Linux community hates Nvidia and Snap. I have an Nvidia card, and it plays my games and looks great. Snap doesn't bother me. BUT Linux is great in that there is so much choice with many distros. Try them and see which one you like.

Vulkan wouldn't work for my PC either. It would crash. DirectX works, but I hope they fix the Vulkan problem. I would rather use Vulkan.

I played for over 2 hours and didn't have any other issues. Performance was very good on my Linux Gaming PC.

Specs
Ubuntu 23.04
ASUS Prime Z690-A LGA
Intel Core i7-12700KF
CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 5200MHz C40-40-40-77 1.25V
ASUS TUF Gaming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

After the patch I tried Vulkan again and played for over 4 hours with out an issue. I'll play again...a lot over the weekend. We'll see if I have any issues.

Everything is optional and your choice. Don't romance anyone or do, your choice. Show genitals or don't, your choice. The Druid wearing a bear form is a choice too. This game is great because of all the choice and how many different outcomes a quest could have, or many different ways to solve a problem. Will I romance a guy wearing a bear form, no. But I'm glad it's there if others want to.

I'm old and it reminds me of the marijuana debate. I'll never smoke marijuana (I think all smoking is bad for you) but I don't care of other do. I'll vote to make it legal even though it's not for me. Why force my beliefs on others. Seems un-American.

Time to explore that camp I found just before bed last night.

Hey! I am one of the 2%. I left Windows around 3 years ago and love gaming on my Linux PC.

Putin playing hockey in his late 60's and "scoring" all those goals against the professional hockey players is such an illusion. And so is the Strongman Trump pretends to be, until he is asked to serve in the military, then he has bone spurs. Ow ow ow.

He is a criminal who worked with Republicans to steal the election from the people.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

Loved Paul Reubens. Funny guy and the last thing I saw him in was Pushing Daisies, another great show that was cancelled.

ha HA....hee hee hee. Great laugh on Pee Wee too

[News] A Georgia judge has rejected former President Trump’s efforts to quash an investigation into his efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election results. (thehill.com)

“The movants’ asserted ‘injuries’ that would open the doors of the courthouse to their claims are either insufficient or else speculative and unrealized,” Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney wrote in the nine-page ruling.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

If he was president, a criminal president he could do all the crimes he wanted and no one could stop him...is what Trump and Republicans think. He would stop all the lawsuits with his president powers.

Stop voting for republicans and Trump. They don't believe in our democracy.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

Yea, I read the article too and I am very suspicious of this being real. Pass the salt.

I happily live here now.

You think we'll start to see reviews of the final game soon?

And we have a Baldur's Gate 3 Fediverse community.

The early access ran very will with my Linux PC.

The launcher will launch through Steam and you select direct x or Vulkan with it. I believe if you log into the launcher you can do cross platform saves.

I will be using my Xbox controller, so I will hold the Xbox logo and right stick to move the curser to start game and right bumper as the left click. Then it will launch.

I will explore Faerun from my sofa.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I heard there will be modding. And Larian will not make a dungeon master mode. So I am not sure. I know Solasta (D&D 5e game from small company) did a dungeon master mode and you can get other modules from the community. But not sure how much can be done with Larian's game with just modding.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

The ProtonBD website should give you some info.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I saw this in an article about the Xbox-s that mentioned the Steam Deck

Larian Studios head of publishing Michael Douse said that playing it on the handheld(Steam Deck) is "absolutely wild" and that, while it won't be verified on launch, the team is actively working towards it. This is a unique approach. Rather than developing for each console simultaneously, Larian Studios is rolling out Baldur's Gate 3 when it's ready for each. First, it'll arrive on PC, then PS5, and then Xbox or the Steam Deck--whichever comes first. While the wait might be longer, it saves the game from being delayed across the board.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

You have to download the game using the Amazon Games App on Windows--or at least I did. Once the game is downloaded, I moved the game folder to my Linux Gaming PC and added it to Steam as a Non-Steam game. I had to set the compatibility Proton to version: 6.3-8 because the newest version wouldn't work with it.

Hairyblue,
@Hairyblue@kbin.social avatar

I didn't know about it. I will try it next time Prime has a free game I want. I tried Lutris but I believe Amazon is blocking the login for them. Thanks for letting me know.
