Random observation post

I've unfortunately been to a lot of medical centers and hospitals in the last year or two. I actually thought it a great idea to continue use of masks in those settings. I had hoped this would be the new thing to do, and it would be maintained for the foreseeable future.

As I sit here yet again in an ER, I note this is no long the case. 25% of people coming in, and zero of the staff. Sigh.... Of all the settings it makes sense and probably always should have.

But then I just keep thinking of the Hospital scene in Idiocracy. And the state of our "healthcare" system, and well, it all makes sense.

They get paid, big, by the hour, and we're still waiting.

So I will start with a few anecdotes. I normally smoke daily after work. A joint or two, couple bowls, etc. And I regularly vape oil cartridges in between times I can't smoke or just need to calm my anxiety.

I've never taken to the oils. Even with small hits it's always really irritated my lungs. Not that smoking doesn't, but nothing like this. Not to mention how many crappy carts I've had that leeched into the mouthpiece. Popcorn lung indeed. Ugh.

I hate to say, I kind of had a similar experience with the dry herb.

A little info on my lung health, I was a 20 year tobacco smoker, not herbs since HS. Quit tobacco 10 years ago. Started cycling, running, etc. So I have decent cardio, and smoking doesn't jive as much with this lifestyle, but you know... I don't enjoy edibles much. But I swear vaping is harder on my lungs or am I just doing it wrong?

I also got a massive headache, but I hadn't eaten anything all day until right after so...

As far as sessions. I filled the bowl 3 times and just maxed out the timer (8min I think) and landed around 370 going from as low as 300 and as high as 450. Seems to jive with a few articles I skimmed. And that seemed to taper off flavor and effectiveness and the material seemed like a good used up brown. I've been collecting spent in another jar to see if I can use it for something later and inspection to see if I'm really getting the most of it.

I got the Rogue based on others recommendations of the older smaller version. Seems to be pretty bullet proof, easy to use. I opted for a curved mouthpiece addon for the hell of it.

So I take it long slow drags are fine, and just because you're not blowing clouds, it's still fine? As in ai'm not able to handle big fat rips like that, so in my comfort zone, I'm barely blowing out anything visible. But it's way less than oil or smoke.

I do have a few mouthpeace minis laying around somewhere so I could try filtering it. Is that necessary? Or even detrimental?

I don't even know what a dosing capsule is. The research I've done on this was read a few threads here so far :) Thankfully much of my intuition was close enough to get me started. I guess I'm not a total dumbass yet.

The best part about going with the vape. Is that I can use it in my condo now. I never wanted to smoke in here because I didn't want to stink up the whole building. Even though some of my neighbors do occasionally. But I just don't want to be that guy and I also don't want to annoy my wife who doesn't like the smell..

She didn't notice when I did it in the other room. She didn't notice when I did it in the kitchen next to the living room. And then she didn't even notice when I was doing it on the couch next to her because she was on her phone instead of watching TV. So I'd say that's a win!

I was recently thinking about the old days when I started out as a young teen. The "tech" we used and sources of materials to construct our tools. And the weed we must have been smoking... And this is in the late 80s, early 90s. Even my memories don't look so bleak compared to these. But I was meaning to look up the THC levels over the years compared to what is around now...

There are times and situations I might enjoy that. But as a regular smoker at the moment getting high is kind of hard due to increased tolerance. I would likely have to take a week or two to reset to try that stuff out.

To be fair, I mostly replaced craft beer with weed. So getting high is kind of the point. Just like getting drunk was. Good taste but also often higher abv. Shrug.

Question: Why are some instances defederating instances which don't sign the fedipact? (kbin.social)

Something I don't understand currently about the whole Meta/Threads debacle is why I'm seeing talk about instances which choose to federate with Threads themselves being defederated. I have an account on mastodon.social, one of the instances which has not signed the fedipact, and I've had people from other instances warn me that...

I think it may be time to just delete all online accounts and only use internet for streaming video and audio or shopping/banking. Doing anything social online has been grossly monetized and I hate it. If fediverse gets attacked by yet another megacorp, I'm out I have no fight or energy left. Been online since dialup bbs, ran my own, forums and personal sites too. Plenty of IRC channels and other communities. But I just don't care anymore. I have very few IRL friends and pretty much zero online anymore as they all settled into FB and I ditched out years ago. Dropping this really isn't more than nuking a distraction. I still have a lot of unread books. Shrug.

I've heard variations of this going back 30 years in the automotive repair business. I often paraphrase a version of it when cutting some corners or doing things in a weird way that saves time and energy, but maybe isn't the safest. Probably not the original intent but...
