Disgustoid,

Amen. Not so much an issue for 40 year old me but I had so many friends in my younger days who didn’t own one because they didn’t think they needed it…until they needed it.

Disgustoid,

My cat used to do this pretty frequently. He wasn’t typically much of a lap cat but it always made me happy when he did it.

Disgustoid,

Somebody mentioned Dr. Pimple Popper to me recently and I thought they were making up an over-the-top fake reality show title. Imagine my shock when I found out that it was a real show. There’s a reason I haven’t watched anything aside from sports on network/cable TV in years.

Disgustoid,

Happy for Infinity users. Legacy Reddit third party app users are feasting in the past couple of days with those apps moving over to Lemmy.

Disgustoid,

You realize this means you can never get rid of that box, right?

Disgustoid,

It’s never too late! The stream of cats in bags today has genuinely made me crack up a bunch of times whenever a new one would show up.

Disgustoid,

If it wasn’t for the cat’s ear peeking out a little bit, I’d find this image weirdly disturbing.

Disgustoid,

I always forget to pick up a cat on my Target runs.

Disgustoid,

What’s up, Doc?

(Don’t blame me, it was RIGHT THERE.)

Disgustoid,

My attempt at comedy apparently failed. That picture was taken two weeks ago when the daytime highs were like 65F/18C, pretty much the same as it is now.

Disgustoid,

I knew Sydney winters were mild compared to a place like Chicago but I still packed a few warm hoodies thinking it would be chilly. I definitely didn’t need them except a few nights when the temperature actually did drop.

Loved the city and surrounding areas we visited but if that’s your winter, I’m not sure I’d survive a summer visit.

Disgustoid,

Never got to play Kolibri but Ecco was the shit for its time. I’m bummed no one ever made an updated version on more powerful systems. The 32X version was just the Genesis version with a bigger color pallette if memory serves.

Disgustoid,

Even though I owned a Dreamcast, I somehow missed Ecco ever being released for it. Reading up about the game, it looks like a fun time.

Disgustoid,

Nope, Wesley’s resemblance to Jim Carrey’s Kirk (from In Living Color, for those too young to know the reference) was the first thing I thought about too. Fortunately Wesley is doing a fantastic job making the Kirk role his own.

Disgustoid,

A doge themed icon? That idiot really is slurping up Musk sauce and emulating everything he did with Twitter.

Disgustoid,

Assuming you’re referring to SNW’s theme and opening credits, I’m in 100% agreement. I never skip the opening credits and it makes me feel like a giddy teenager watching TNG weekly when it first aired.

Disgustoid,

I laughed more times in that one episode than I have during hundreds of previous Trek episodes COMBINED. Trek comedy has never landed with me which makes this the best Trek comedy ever by a large margin. Angsty Spock and the crew’s reaction to him were genuinely funny, with a special nod to Pike’s “WTF” facial reactions in the background during the ceremony.

Going in spoiler-free and without having read people’s opinions in this thread, I’m going to guess this is going to be one hell of a polarizing episode. But one I really enjoyed, so there’s that.

Disgustoid,

RIP Manny. 62 is way too young. Fuck cancer.

Disgustoid,

Mine dropped from like 35 to 2 for most of yesterday but bounced back up to where it should be today. Looks like it was a temporary glitch in the system.

Disgustoid, (edited )

I was lamenting the lack of an NFL community here but no way in hell I’m joining a Dallas Cowboys community regardless of how much discussion it generates. 😆

Who are your favorite Trek reviewers/Youtubers?

I have a few, my fav is Jessie Gender, who gives insightful reviews but doesnt shy away from criticism of Trek. I also like how she looks at things from a gender critical angle, which is something few peoppe think about. Sean Ferrick is another cool one, as are the guys from Trekyards who are more focussed on tech and ships. Who...

Disgustoid,

Not a full-on reviewer but Junkball. That guy’s enthusiasm for starship design appeals to a part of me I didn’t know existed, and I wound up watching half of his videos one weekend not long ago.

Disgustoid,

I can’t believe I’m rooting for Zuckerberg over that walking shitstain Musk here. WTAF.

Disgustoid,

Wow, these SNW writers really bring it each week, don’t they? Not to say every episode is perfect but I’ve found every single one to be very entertaining and exactly what I want out of Star Trek in 2023. The combination of standalone stories mixed with underlying character development and arcs is perfect.

As for this week, the idea of encountering a planet that could make you forget everything was weirdly creepy, if not a bit implausible. Even if this wasn’t her showcase episode, I grinned at Ortega’s “I AM THE PILOT!” moment. Also enjoyed the away team being out of sorts on the planet which I thought was well done and not an action overdose like the season opener.

Disgustoid,

I know the feeling! SNW’s theme and opening credits definitely bring back memories of eagerly looking forward to TNG every week. It’s easily my favorite Trek theme since TNG.

Disgustoid,

I don’t know if we’ll ever see a full episode with flashbacks to everything he’s been through, but oddly enough I don’t mind the intentionally vague references to it so far–leaves it open for our imaginations (and fan fiction) to fill in the gaps.

Disgustoid,

Miles O’Brien: “First time?”

Disgustoid,

Definitely more prolific thus far considering all the communities I've found on Lemmy so far are for hobbies and interests, and not just the slew of assorted cat pic subreddits I was subscribed to on Reddit. I'm sure the latter will come in time though.

Disgustoid,

You misunderstand--I almost never post on them, but I actually want more Lemmy cat pic communities which provide an endless source of cuteness and entertainment amidst the doomscrolling. But to each their own, of course.

What are Android's Best Weather Apps? (kbin.social)

Ever since I started using smart phones, I have been jumping between different weather apps and have not been very satisfied with most of them. I found the apps from the big weather providers like Accuweather and Weather Channel to be bloated and distracting with advertisements and irrelevant news. The app I was closest to being...

Disgustoid,

If you're not a fan of high information density, I recommend Overdrop. It presents the key information in a simple, clear way.

Also been testing Weather Today which seems to be another good one in the few weeks I've had it.

Disgustoid,

That's certainly one way to begin a social media detox along with Reddit's idiocy over third party apps. This will make it much easier to ignore Twitter since I deleted my account there and have no intention of signing up again just to view tweets.

Disgustoid,

I agree. I'm usually the first to complain when it's obvious a show/movie needed an editor to cut unnecessary filler but this this episode used its time well IMO.
