I’m shopping for my first printer, I don’t have any experience with 3d printing but I’m vaguely familiar with the whole process and I understand there will be a learning curve and I’m looking forward to that part....
Depends on your budget and how deep you want to dive.
I bought Ender 3v2 as my first 3D printer, and it traumatised me to the point I’ve not printed anything in a year. 3D printing has it’s learning curves, but Creality gives you no ropes here. Which is great and ultra frustrating at the same time. You will learn a lot about 3D printing, even stuff that you don’t really need. But it will take you a long time and loads of sweat and tears for your first successful 3D print (unless you are lucky and your printer will be good to go from the box).
Saying burkinis are dumb is a really dumb thing to say.
For some bucket hats are dumb, but some people wear them. Not your place to judge. Also, it allows people of certain believes to have an equal access to commodities like going to a beach and go for a swim in a public.
In this regards, I would say, they are pretty smart.
If somebody is forced (!) to dress in a specific way, that’s wrong. But if somebody chooses (!) to wear them for religious reasons, who am I to judge that?
My point is, there is nothing inherently wrong with burkinis - the context in which some individuals are wearing them might be wrong.
I 100% agree with you, that nobody should be forced to wear something that they don’t want to.
Its not that - throwing out a wedding party on a cheap, doesn’t really change anything. You and your partner wanting just the two of you and the closest people to be there, and the rest doesn’t really matter - that’s the core and some sort of indications that you are with right person. The more you are wanting/needing to be there for show, the more it says about your relationship in not exactly positive way.
Don’t get me wrong - if you always pictured yourself getting to the venue on an elephant surrounded by royal guards with fireworks in the background and you can afford it - good on you, go for it.
But later in life you might realized that the most important thing was not all the extra stuff, but you and your beloved. Nothing can compensate for that.
Also people taking loans and letting their families sponsor the excessive wedding to me is a bit silly. If you can’t afford it, don’t do it like that. This money can better spent on holidays or as a down payment for your first house. Its just one night ffs 😁
So here is the issue, I use Google Drive because I am a writer who does a lot of writing. And I thought the cloud was a reliable way to store my writing, however now Google is looking through it’s to train their ai. And I’m worried about that, especially since I have written a lot of questionable content, porn and the like....
When I was looking to replace my google tools, I couldn’t find an easy to to alternative Google Photos. Things that were suggested like immich or Synology or ente required some level of technical know how or dedicated hardware. I ended up buying a Synology drive but I have issues with loading images/videos (it’s extremely...
Problem is, self hosted solutions require an investment into dedicated software. And even still, it doesn’t work that well. As I said, my Synology Photos will load photos after a while, but videos is a whole different story. And it’s not the internet connection in my case
I’m starting my degoogling journey (mostly looking into the various options at hand) and I was wondering what hood alternatives to Goohle Photos is there? I’m specifically wondering about a service that would double both as a cloud storage and a gallery with a timeline and such. But currently it’s only cloud storage backup...
On my chromecast i have Google and Google Assistant disabled. I also have Projectivy launcher. I want to know how to degoogle it further, i am too scared to disable google play services because i don’t have aurora store here. I also replaced Gboard with a open source alternative. Any ideas?
I can fall asleep almost anywhere. I routinely fall asleep in the break room at work. Once, I was helping a friend fix his car, and I fell asleep on his garage floor when he went inside to get water....
I actually find it easier to fall a sleep on a plane - not that I have any issues anywhere else 😁 but as soon as I get on that plane, you bet I’m gonna get some zzz time. Even if its just a 2hr flight
Even if it will get dismissed/amended so it doesn’t ruin open and private internet, the direction it’s all going really worries me. Every couple of months/years you will hear that the governments are trying again and again…Eventually they will succeed - enter “1984”
What about decentralised solutions like Matrix? I think they would have hard time accessing anything if it’s stored on a private server. EDIT: Or is it on ISP level? So no matter how you access/communicate - it will all be scanned the point when data leaves your device and communicates with web.
I’m pretty sure this happened away from home and I’m just now noticing. The scratch is really deep hitting the metal in the deepest part. I have full coverage but I’m worried a claim will raise my insurance too much to be worth it. I’ve wrenched on cars before but never painted anything because it scares me....
I recently acquired a second hand DS216j with 6TB (SHR1 so only 3TB is usable). I moved all my Google Photos images and videos onto it, but now when I access it through QuickConnect it loads them really slow, the videos are constantly buffering and when they load they have a messed up framerate (really jittery). I have a 500...
It definitely cannot be the NAS. The NAS does not do any sort of transcoding when you play a video using the Synology Photos App. Try a lower res/bitrate video, if that plays fine, then your internet upload speed is the problem.
Is there anything to it? Is it possible that the Play series is for the Plex functionality?
So you reckon it’s my connection is bottlenecking the whole operation?
EDIT: I noticed when I’m on my home network, there is no issue with the videos being slow. So it is the connection most likely. Ergo, nothing I can improve unless I upgrade my contract?
I noticed that there is one scenario that I get good load times + video with proper framerate: laptop connected to the same network. If it’s on my phone, no matter if it’s the same network, 5G or external network - videos are always choppy…
;TLDR: Is privacy actions on an individual level worth pursuing, when friends and family are doing nothing to strengthen their privacy and when living in a country where my social security number, phone number, and so on, really can not be hidden?...
I started my journey to degoogle myself very recently. I’m still to make the transition from Google stuff, but for now I treat it two fold.
I treat it as a side hobby - I know it would be more convenient to just stay under the Google umbrella, but I’m interested in the state of FOSS and how far you can replicate gtools. I’m waiting for my Synology NAS drive and hopefully this will cover most of my needs.
A personal statement/protest against greedy companies - I know that cutting access to some of my data (I’m not disillusioned - I know they still have a lot of my data and they will still have access to some) won’t make a difference, but by switching from WhatsApp to Signal, I created a conversation among my friends and family. They became a bit more aware of the current situation. Same with switching from Reddit to Lemmy. The further I travel on my path, the more people around me are interested in their own privacy.
So if you are realistic about it, as you are judging from your post, I would say it’s worth - even if just as a middle finger to the big, privacy violating conglomerates. We shouldn’t just roll over and give up our personal lives.
Also, you will have full deniability of any future repercussions of people allowing big corpos doing with their data whatever they want.
So I’m looking to disconnect myself from Google and their tracking (as much as possible) and I was thinking about installing GrapheneOS on my Pixel phone. I mostly use my phone for Lemmy, Signal, NewPipe and taking photos. The last one is my biggest bother at the moment. The Google Photos environment is so convenient - I take...
I want my own person cloud storage I could access from anywhere in the world with some Google Photos functionalities and probably some tinkering but not a lot. It would be just me and my partner using it, but mostly just me. Maybe install a PiHol? Is that an option? What other possibilities are there?
