I'm putting together my Christmas list for family. It's that time of year again. So... Send me some reading recommendations! Give me links to YOUR books, guys. I'm going to bookmark this and save it for later, so I can purchase stuff throughout the year as well. I want to support everyone.

I hope everyone will check out the comments, too. Let's all support and love one another and help each other when and where we can.

@floofpaldi Love seeing everyone promoting their work! 😊❤️ Hope the family finds a new favorite among them!
My book isn't out (yet), I just have some short stories and research articles available on my BuyMeACoffee. If you do this again next year, I'll throw my work in then. I will recommend "The Starless Sea" by Erin Morgenstern. Haven't finished it yet but what I have read I've enjoyed.

Hi, I'm an as-of-yet unpublished YA author and high school math teacher who just joined Mastodon. I'm looking out for suggestions of who to follow in the writing/teaching community!

@bookstodon @edutooters

weirdwriter,

@writeplace @bookstodon @edutooters I echo what everyone else has suggested, but if you want to check me out, I am a Blind writer that writes a lot of fiction with Blind characters and personal essays. Find my writing page here where you can read books and more https://blindjournalist.wordpress.com/writings/

writeplace,
@writeplace@mastodon.social avatar

@weirdwriter I'm already following you! I'm very interested in accessibility. It's crazy that people don't always get it right for something as simple as ebooks.

#WritersCoffeeClub Ch 3 Nbr 8 — What does your most productive writing space look like?

This is my most productive writing space. It includes a keyboard and trackpad glued to my treadmill, a monitor above mirroring my iPadPro to the right, a Apple TV puck, a Homepod mini, and coffee.

I get more revision done here than anywhere else, and some composition, too!

"So a lot of all your writing happens on - wait. Is that a treadmill?"

Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but /I'm really a hamster./ That's my hamster wheel. It allows me to get my writing tasks done while getting my aerobic exercise during a busy day (most of them). ~2.8 mph. Remember, I also read aloud to proof my stories...

@sfwrtr Just making sure I understood the picture correctly 😁

Is cool!

Guten Morgen.

Sep 19. Do you suffer from imposter syndrome?

Who doesn't? Psychopaths, that's who.

Besides, if you’re too comfortable you’re probably not pushing yourself hard enough.

In relation to this, here's a quote from David Bowie that I've always liked:

"If you feel safe in the area that you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth, and when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting."

Sept 17: How do you promote your writing?

Instead of answering, I went through all the responses thus far and made a spreadsheet of the answers. (This is absolutely non-scientific and possibly inaccurate, plus there's no data as to how well these strategies worked, but hey, I was curious and thought maybe others might be interested too.)

I also have a list of "Other" answers that didn't fit neatly in these boxes or struck me in some way-- I'll link those next.

skaeth,
@skaeth@writing.exchange avatar

@ElisesWritings @RubyJones I’d be very interested in knowing how effective that strategy is too!
For comp titles, (first of all, I’m just plain interested, but that’s a total sidebar) have you tried asking @bookstodon ? Or using the hashtag? Using this resource, I have gotten so many amazing books to read to see if they’ll fit, along with just plain awesome books to read for fun too. I asked recently for low fantasy adventure romance recs and now have a pile of books to read.

@skaeth @RubyJones @bookstodon no I haven't. Thanks for the tip.

Dec 18th: Will you read over the holidays? What book will you choose?

I'll probably read a few more short stories from the Gothic Fantasy collection or from one of my Library of America books.

Nov 12: Preferred writing method?

In my mind.

I paint a tapestry of words with my brain first, and only then with my fingertips on a keyboard. Only then it's not typing, it's creating.

On what? A blank sheet of digital white paper. Word for myself and Google Drive to collaborate with my editor. @bookstadon

Book 5 of The Silk Rope Masters is slowly coming together. I had hoped it would have been completed by now but Cancer arrived to stuff up my progress.
I'm hoping to have it finished by early in the new year and ready to submit.
I really love working in Scrivener!

Every word hides a secret, and we hide behind our words. "Language should be tortured to tell the truth", Elfriede Jelinek says. That's what poetry does. What it still attempts to do. To put a sentence upon the rack. A thought drawn and quartered. An inquisition sent to force convert every part of speech, until it means more than it can say. Every word hides a secret, and words tell secrets too.

You can huff and you can puff all you want, but at some point you start to learn, that no matter the wall, no matter the fall, no matter how many horses, no matter how many men, somethings can't be put back together again. Home is where the acceptance starts. You change your clothes, you step outside, you take a breath, and you enter the world anew.

Sep 27 What is the strangest research you've done for your writing?

When I was writing Herakles and the Cyprian Centaur, I researched horse cocks for the centaur character and came across a zoophilia message board that was both incredibly helpful for my writing and incredibly weird to read. I thought nothing could faze me but it turns out learning about how to give oral sex to a pony did 😅

8 September: Did you like to read as a child?

Oh yes, I absolutely loved it! My favourite books that I read by myself were the Neverending Story, Ronia the Robber's Daughter, and The Brothers Lionheart. I also loved reading all the books of myths and fairytales my parents had at home, including "Classical Mythology" which first sparked my interest in Greek .
