I very recently realized that I might be experiencing the onset of a . And, no, it does not manifest in buying a sports car, neither in extramarital affairs with someone 20 years younger, and I am also not workaholic.

My symptom is wanting to spend all my time in doing all sorts of fun action. Cycling, hiking, canoeing, mountaineering, you name it. And now I'm thinking of getting into cross country skiing...

How is yours unfolding?

The red color and its white dots make the appearance of the Amanita muscaria mushroom charming and very beautiful. Amanita muscaria is probably the oldest hallucinogenic mushroom used by humanity.
In the Nordic region, the Sami people of Lapland ate hallucinogenic mushrooms, and even fed them to their reindeer in the days after the winter solstice. The inhabitants of this region dressed in red and white to give mushrooms to the rest of the town, and the consumption was such that they thought they were flying.

A beautiful red mushroom with white dots called Amanita muscaria
Two beautiful red mushrooms with white dots, called Amanita muscaria, are eaten by some insect or slug and in one of them there is a small bug. The name Amanita muscaria is due to its paralyzing effect on some insects; it has even been used to scare away flies.

So there's this Greek myth that says Zeus was fed by bees when he was born. In gratitude, he blessed them with the color of "shining bronze", and made them immune to cold and harsh winds. These bees lived in Zeus' sacred cave in Crete, and aggressively chased away anyone who tried to steal their honey.

Any #apiarist or #entomology expert out there who could tell me what these bees are by any chance?...

these lima beans are so amazing that you don't even have to work to open the pod! as they dry on the vine, the pods split open. you literally just reach in there and grab this amazing, delicious, nutritious, and beautiful food.

plants make it so easy for us and yet humans have made it so hard to live.... 😖

"Like many beans, raw lima beans are toxic (containing e.g. phytohaemagglutinin) if not boiled for at least 10 minutes. However, canned beans can be eaten without having to be boiled first, as they are pre-cooked.

"The lima bean can contain anti-nutrients.... These inhibit absorption of nutrients... and can cause damage to some organs. ...roasting, pressure cooking, soaking, and germination can also reduce the antinutrients significantly."

Visited a dear friend in Lawrence, Kansas today and she is a squirrel whisperer. She puts out pecans, peanuts, and almonds for her neighborhood squirrels and they are all so sweet and courageous. Here’s one eating a nut right outside her back door on the porch.

Walking the dog around the suburban neighborhood I am in right now, I am struck by how out-of-sync the yards are to the native landscape. Water thirsty plants. Large expanses of lawn. Imported plants which cannot take drought or heat. Imported river rocks. Only one yard with natives that the birds and insects here could forage. Almost zero edible plants or fruit trees visible.

What you see in an Australian garden: an Orange Spider Wasp (Cryptocheilus bicolor) dragging its prey, a Huntsman Spider, to its nest.
