Must Stash DK experiments Part 4: entrelac in the round with self-striping continues. The blue made it through 4 1/2 rectangles which means the white will make it through a similar number and probably double back on itself, which is not ideal (white rectangle stacked on white).
Photo shows view from above of entrelac tube on flexiflips and a leather stitch cord through first all knit round as a lifeline.
Must Stash DK experiments Part 3: Primary test underway. I actually missed taking a picture of the first which I ripped back. Here is entrelac in the round using the self striping yarn. It’s working! #Knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts (remove groups to reply)
Also practiced new-to-me technique of “purling backwards” which is really producing a knit stitch on the RS while working left to right with RS facing. Very helpful for entrelac! No need to keep turning the fabric
Must Stash Yarn DK experiments Part 2: successfully did a tubular cast on and 1x1 ribbing up to the third color. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts (remove groups to reply)
I wound some Must Stash yarn and dug around in my books today for some inspiration. I found a couple of crumpled pieces ripped out of a magazine and folded into my Entrelac book with this pattern for entrelac socks… I would have been really sad if I couldn’t find this pattern again (as with a few that are now out of print) so I have officially photographed it and stored it in my note taking app. Here’s the Ravelry link https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/entrelac-socks#knitting#FiberArts@knitting
This hat was knit nearly 10 years ago. The colored yarn is #handspun, the batt it was spun from was an experiment on my carding machine, which came out really great, considering it was done from odds and ends in my fiber box.
Looking at the pictures again - I should give this carding technique another go, because I really like how the colors blend together here.
My neighbor across the way hangs seasonal gnomes on her door. She’s had this on up since the beginning of November but last night she added this cute feature: a garland of knitted autumn charms that I made for her a few years ago. I think it does look nice together. #knitting#FiberArts#decor@fiberarts@knitting (remove groups to reply) (pattern link in comments)
My new Must Stash yarn arrived yesterday. I have Plans of things to try with it. That said, those plans are on hold until I finish the socks I am currently working on and probably until I also finish the Advent shawl. Excited but don’t want to lose momentum on my current efforts. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
Halfway through day 22 of my Advent painting (big) honeycombs shawl. It starts wide and gets narrower which means each row is shorter (yay) so right now I am doing 2 rows of honeycombs per day (see orange honeycomb row at the top) and then the last 2 days will be three rows of honeycombs each. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
The Scottish Traditional Music Archive Directory is now live! 🥳
The directory brings together organisations in and outside Scotland with collections of Scottish traditional music.
Users can identify collection holders, find information on their catalogues, get in touch with them, and compare collections from different organisations.
I always wear hand-knits for big work things - it gives me a wee bit more confidence. So for today's launch of the Scottish Traditional Music Archive I wore my Effervescent jumper by Aimee Sher.
This year’s #KnitStars series kicked off with Nancy Ricci “it’s just a rectangle” which is really her way of saying anyone can design. She talks about how her curiosity led to her learning by doing. The 1st task is 6 swatches with chunky yarn on different sized needles and think about what you would do with the different fabrics that result. I am inspired by the idea that swatching in itself should be fun, heard this year from both her and Patty Lyons. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting
I decided to pick up last year’s advent project for which i am currently on Day 19 so only 6 days left to do (my set is 25 minis and a full sized skein). Lord of the Rings Return of the King themed, and I am doing Stephen West’s painting honeycombs shawl (big honeycombs). Here’s how it looked when I last touched it. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting
October was apparently unofficial “knit things with worsted yarn” month for me and has led to my most projects completed from start to finish in one month ever. Yes, here is my 4th bonus #FallFinishAlong project. These are Batten Slippers in worsted weight Icelandic yarn. So cozy! And kind of a fun construction with i-cord start before picking up and knitting cuffs separately and joining together. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
I'm thinking of myself as a rather experienced and curious knitter. I've learned a long, long time ago, tried out a lot of things over the years, refined my techniques, incorporated new things, and experimented to find out better ways to do things.
But every time I watch one of Roxanne's videos I learn new, nifty ways of doing things. Like kfb in ribbing looks like k1, p1 ... so obvious, if you look closely enough.
Finally got around to knitting a Clanger (inspired by the 70’s TV Show and a visit to Canterbury Museum). This is Tiny Clanger (but a bit large and a bit pink due to the Aran wool I had from another project). Free pattern from the BBC too! #knitting@knitting#fiberarts@BBCRD
Another bonus #FallFinishAlong FO! My first completed brioche project is this Harlow Hat in worsted yarn. It hasn’t been blocked yet but I’m calling it anyway. I will block it eventually but it’s wearable now. There are a few errors here and there I’ve decided to ignore. The biggest issue is that the tubular cast on is not, well, tubular. I’m going to practice and make sure i get it right for the next time. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
Well, until right now when I bought 2 skeins of yarn from The Lemonade Shop yarns because I wanted the stitch marker so badly. Colorway purchased is goldfish in DK. Excuse: I’m building a DK stash. Will make a nice Musselburgh. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
And they are done! My second bonus #FallFinishAlong project, colorblock camp socks from Ozetta with bonus contrast toe. These worsted socks probably won’t fit in my shoes but they’ll work in boots and be good around the house. The Icelandic yarn has an interesting texture. I hope it softens up with a soak. I need to remember these are non-superwash or I’m going to end up with felted baby slippers instead of adult socks ;) #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
I know I’m being redundant here but I can’t help thinking it every time I pick them up - worsted weight socks are so much faster to make than fingering socks. I cast on this morning and even with only a little time to knit just finished the heel flap. I could go further but instead I’m going to call it a night and save turning the heel for tomorrow. #Knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
I’m bouncing back and forth between two projects right now, each relatively fast. I finished the first Colorblock Camp Sock last night. I decided to do the toe in the lighter color although the pattern didn’t call for it (pattern called for longer leg but I don’t like wearing my socks so high). #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
The Snowflake slippers are officially done, ends all woven in. Unblocked but I’m not really planning to block them anyway. Cast on and finished in extended #FallFinishAlong! The pics show outside view of too and bottom and side view of inside and outside. The slippers use twined knitting on the instep for stretchiness and stranded knitting on the sole. The cuffs are done with two strands twined in the same color. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts#FallFinishAlong_FOs
Yes, i rescheduled a low-priority meeting to make room for me to spend 30 minutes knitting instead. And it was totally worth it because I feel so much more able to focus on now. Plus, my Harlow hat looks like actual brioche now (after ripping out and casting on again). Now time to focus on work! #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
