Today's queer small press review! Apprentice's Luck" by K.L. Noone:
"A gentle tale about a young magician coming into his power, and finding love along the way. Throw in a little court intrigue and a plot to overthrow a good ruler, and it's quite an enjoyable read."
I finished this book last night and loved it. It's set in an alternative Victorian-era world where magic is real. The world is like ours though in that women can't vote and the lowers classes have pretty crappy lives. This book is about three sisters who decide to try to use witchcraft to get the vote for women, but the story turns into way more than that. Fun magic system. It explores family dynamics, power, and is super feminist. Highly recommend. @bookstodon#Bookstodon#Fantasy#Witches
Hey #Bookstodon - Currently in India and purchasing #books to bring home. Planning to buy "The Priory of the Orange Tree" by Samantha Shannon. I've been wanting to read it but the library waiting list is 1,000 miles long. My question is whether it is worth also buying it's sequel "A Day of Fallen Night" as well. Both are CRAZY cheap but quite thick. I also don't usually purchase both books in a series before reading one. Thanks!
The weight means people won’t put every vaguely related tag on their post, and so poison other searches. It’s of the mindset that a post with a small number of tags is more likely to be what you want than a hit in amongst dozens.
E.g. a post focused on sci-fi books might be tagged with #books#scifi. If they also include #fantasy then the ‘value’ of the tags get diluted. If they also include every other genre of story, then it’s watered down to almost nothing. If you then search for #books#scifi then the focused post will appear higher than the more general one. It’s more likely to match what you want.
197 backers - only 3 to go to get a brand new essay on this great book I just read, Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh. It's got humans as space orcs and an "are we the baddies?" plot. AND it has some cool linguistic worldbuilding I want to capslock about. The 3€ tier will get you this essay and at least 5 more!

Victoria is a writer of literary fantasy.
Interwoven series and standalone fantasy stories. Tales of friendship, fealty, adventure, and occasionally good government. For those who like a little philosophy with their swashbuckling, but care for characters most of all. 💜
I think my non-conventional cover for Hooper's Junction looks really good in person. It may not get the most clicks on overcrowded storefronts, but I like it and I prefer that to following the marketing trends.
With a steely gaze, she ran the device over her figure, each sweep tailoring an outfit fit for the Guild Ball—a dress forged from the very fabric of the cosmos, displaying a dance of galaxies and nebulae.
Taki powrót do bajkowych klimatów.
This is the latest book in my romantic noir urban fantasy series that starts with The Demons of Wall Street. Available in paper and ebook formats from @MirrorWorldPub and the usual online stores.
I’m hear before the day has properly started writing, so that’s good. As some of you say, this is the way. I’m very stuck with my current short story. I love the start and first few scenes, a lot, but now don’t know where it’s going, so am questioning everything. But it’s due in two days, so just pushing through, see where it’ll take me. Hopefully just writing will unlock the way forward. Sometimes that works. @bookstodon@amwriting#amwriting#mjjmori

I’ve got a few short stories published in anthologies. A small start, but I’m trying to make something more of my writing that a long term small time hobby. Been following a meandering pathway through a wide grassy field for a very long time, now standing at the basecamp of a tall mountain. Scary and awesome at the same time :owi:
