Once in a generation, the matriarchs of Jeska choose a new king to manage the government and command the Guard — protecting Jeskans from crime, invaders, and insurgency.
Corren's been training for that job since he was six, but this is an unsettled time: rumors of strange incursions, grumbling discontent, and increasing brigandry. (1/2)
Hallo, shop! Yesterday I didn't much care for 'The Cartographers', but today you can read about why I LOVED Starling House, by Alix E Harrow, on Nerds of a Feather!
Look, just do what the nice sentient house wants, all right?
@ergative@bookstodon That just arrived late last week and I just want to say ‘honeysuckle?!? SEYMOUR IS HONEYSUCKLE???” Which tells you where I’m at.Thanks for the review copy @torbooks aka Macmillan Aus.
#currentlyreading The House in the Cerulean Sea. I’ve heard good things about it. I’m on chapter 10, and I like it for the most part. I think the magical characters are interesting, but the caseworker rubs my skin the wrong way. Gonna try to be patient with him.
@infinitesoleil@bookstodon It is a good book, and I've come to appreciate the way TJ Klune allows characters to meander into being more whole. I had a similar experience with "under the whispering door"
@madrobin@bookstodon There are many great special editions for this one. I have just my old copy (picture) but there are so many great covers out there. 😍

I just sold a novelette to THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION. Next year this classic mag is going to have its 75th Anniversary issue. I wonder how many readers of science fiction and fantasy still read the great sf magazines printed on paper...? I'm thinking of "F&SF", linked below, Analog, Asimov's, and Interzone. My story, The Corporate Soul, will be out sometime next year. I had a story in the December '22 issue too. #sff#scifi#fantasy
Check out F&SF: https://www.sfsite.com/fsf/
Books make the world better.
This week I'll be posting about some of my favorite books YA, their covers and their fabulous opening lines.
“The island of Gont, a single mountain that lifts its peak a mile above the storm-racked Northeast Sea, is a land famous for wizards”
-A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin
@franciscawrites@bookstodon
For what it's worth, "A Wizard of Earthsea" was the very first book sold from the spilled/loose items I recently rescued from my wrecked storage shed. I'll have to find a personal copy and give it a whirl.
@tffmh@bookstodon Same for me. The Earthsea series made me the huge fan of fantasy I am today and I like to cite it as one of the reasons I became a writer.

Helloo! Calling all lovely people who like #sff#books with lashings of mystery and detection. We've just been given some reviewer #audiobook codes for our novel, OverLondon and would love to share them with anyone with a hankering to listen, (hopefully) snort-laugh and leave a review.
OverLondon has pirate detectives. It's got rogue artificers! It's got a big explosive crime. It's got an angry badger! It's got an alternate version of London formed by the Vengeful Queen Anne Boleyn! It's got a world so vivid we regularly run #ttrpg#dnd and pathfinder campaigns based on it. It radiates awesomeness like the power of a supernova that's showing off for its grandparents!
It's narrated by Brendan McDonald who did C.K. McDonnell's amazing Stranger Times audiobooks, which roosted like Smaug on his gold pile at no 1 in the Audible charts for 3 entire days last month. (A near impossible feat!)
It's been likened to what would happen if Spike Milligan and Terry Pratchett ever wrote a book!
If the thought of listening to an amazing voice actor at the height of his game sounds like your cup of tea, just message me or reply, and we'll get you sorted with a code.
@georgepenney@bookstodon Appreciate the delightful image descriptions, really gives it character. Also aww, the ebook's not available until September according to Kobo. I'm more of an ebook person than an audiobook person.
