@kimlockhartga @bookstodon But wait, you forgot this one! I'm sure it was just an oversight.

@JPK_elmediat @Spiricom @kimlockhartga @bookstodon I once collaborated with Edgar Allan Poe, you know. I did! I'm older than I look. Well, it was an anthology of writers completing an unfinished Poe fragment, The Lighthouse.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon some of my books are pushed by publishers on bookbub including The Other End and Wetbones but I don't know if I'm a member..

It's clear people like archaeology. It's just big time Netflix producers gatekeep & prefer fantastical claims to solid archaeology based on up-to-date methods

Watch my video critiquing the 'burials' to see the problems with this show: https://youtube.com/watch?v=9iN9t393QQI

New video next week. @archaeodons

@FlintDibble @archaeodons yes --the worst is that one that was put out at netflix by the son of a famous ancient astronaut bozo. Just utter BS. will check your video

@FlintDibble @archaeodons yeah the Hancock show is surely the worst "archaeological show" there, that I've seen. I'm really mad that they promoted that anti-science garbage.

I just sold a novelette to THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION. Next year this classic mag is going to have its 75th Anniversary issue. I wonder how many readers of science fiction and fantasy still read the great sf magazines printed on paper...? I'm thinking of "F&SF", linked below, Analog, Asimov's, and Interzone. My story, The Corporate Soul, will be out sometime next year. I had a story in the December '22 issue too.
Check out F&SF: https://www.sfsite.com/fsf/

[Another reason books are going to increasingly suck--publishers are getting rid of most editors and copyeditors...and by the way I just saw "how to use chatgpt to copyedit your book" Oh...god...]

Several top editors at Penguin Random House accept buyout offers, layoffs also underway

Some of publishing’s most celebrated and enduring editors are leaving their posts at Penguin Random House after accepting buyout packages

@DarkMatterZine @gentrifiedrose @KorraSaqqara @bookstodon I'm very interested in this subject of big publishing houses streamlining edits. I have sometimes wondered if it might be the case. But in this case, the Killables--isn't the book probably self published? Self published books are usually not edited by anyone but the author (though some will hire a copyeditor.) And it really shows. As a novelist I can tell you I value my publishers' copyeditors very much.

@KorraSaqqara @bookstodon That's horrible. And look at this: "how to use chatgpt to copyedit your book"-- how is that going to turn out?

@alan @DarkMatterZine @gentrifiedrose @KorraSaqqara @bookstodon Hachette is a good company. I'm with an imprint of Penguin Random House and they are dumping editors!

@HLGEM @DarkMatterZine @gentrifiedrose @KorraSaqqara @bookstodon How many self published writers succeed at four and five figures a month?

JohnShirley2023,
@JohnShirley2023@mastodon.cloud avatar

@HLGEM @DarkMatterZine @alan @KorraSaqqara @bookstodon I would have assumed that yeah. You're talking to one of the old ones!

JohnShirley2023,
@JohnShirley2023@mastodon.cloud avatar

@HLGEM @DarkMatterZine @alan @gentrifiedrose @KorraSaqqara @bookstodon It's the rare contract that doesn't say the writer gets their rights back after two years of being out of print. I have some older friends who were published by trad publishing for decades who are turning to self publishing--with little success, though they both have a following. And one of them has won two awards.
