Canada, Britain and main EU countries join Myanmar genocide case
Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Britain have teamed up to join the genocide case over Myanmar's treatment of the Muslim Rohingya minority before the UN's top court in The Hague.
🇪🇺 🇷🇺 The European Union has proposed banning the export of machine tools and machinery parts that Russia uses to make weapons targeting Ukraine, according to documents seen by Bloomberg.
Facing a changing geopolitical and economic environment, we rose to the challenge of delivering a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable #economy.
In Versailles, two weeks after Russia's brutal aggression on Ukraine, #EU leaders vowed to take responsibility for our #security and strengthen sovereignty.
Since then, we have taken action to live up to the call. ↓
We built a stronger economic base on our Single Market:
→ de-risking our economy while ensuring economic openness;
→ addressing labour and #skills shortages;
→ securing critical resources and technologies.
And created a favourable environment for #investments:
→ providing loans and grants to EU countries via the #NextGenerationEU;
→ mobilising private investments via #InvestEU;
→ boosting #EU action via the STEP Platform.
The flagship #Misskey instance is experiencing growing pains, but is also discouraging #Fediverse residents in #Europe (or rather the #EuropeanUnion 🇪🇺) from signing up due to #GDPR issues.
👉🏾 Misskey (https://misskey.io) signing up 20,000 new users per day
👉🏾 After consulting lawyers, Misskey.io will now discourage Europeans from signing up
👉🏾 #Firefish could fill in the vacuum in Europe
@osma Thanks for that link. I will show it to the #Misskey (https://misskey.io) admins, as it may allow them to retain data under #Japan’s 🇯🇵 laws without violating #GDPR laws.
@osma@darnell I believe the concern is the right to be forgotten hasn’t been tested in court for many if any federated platforms but people have used this rule to try and get their accounts deleted.
On mastodon deleting an account still keeps some identification for security and platform reasons and deletes when federated are extremely lossy - probably only about 85% effective and there is no assurance that remote post and account deletes guarantee a delete on the remote system when you can land on any type of fedi implementation.
I had two people try and claim GDPR right to be forgotten but ironically to protect myself I had to move their accounts to another system to track compliance of requests and cover my butt for any legal pursuers. They were running a fraud scheme.
@EU_Commission Accelerate the integration of countries in the EU. This is going too slow and Moldova and Georgia need help and protection from russian aggressions.
@EU_Commission including our brothers & sisters in the global south. Please, during your retreat, can you repent of drowning them in the Med as policy to grab the easy racist vote. You aren't in power just to be in power, or else you would be pointless. With them, we are strong. Without them, we are miserable elderly spendthrifts. The reality of climate change is what needs addressing, not the fantasy of "white replacement". Acting on fantasies brings ruin. Tell the truth & act on it. Thanks.
Europe swept by blistering and potentially record-breaking temperatures
A blistering and deadly heat wave is sweeping Europe, potentially bringing record-breaking temperatures and raising serious concerns about the impacts on people’s health, especially as the continent welcomes an influx of tourists.
Parts of Spain, France, Greece, Croatia and Italy are all facing intense heat, with temperatures rising above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).
In Italy, temperatures could reach record-breaking levels. Sardinia and Sicily are expected to be close to the current European temperature record of 48.8 degrees Celsius (nearly 120 Fahrenheit), according to the ESA.
@EU_Commission Where do I find information about the progress of these pilot projects? As the announcement dates from Jan 31, 2023, some progress should have been made.
EU House stresses ‘side-effects’ of Romania, Bulgaria Schengen blockade
A non-binding European Parliament resolution adopted on Wednesday calls for Bulgaria and Romania to join the border-free Schengen area by the end of the year, stressing severe side effects for the two countries’ citizens and slamming Austria for blocking their accession without a legitimate reason.

With a record budget of €402.2 million from the #ErasmusPlus programme, each alliance will receive a budget of up to €14.4 million for four years.
@EU_Commission Not wanting to be nitpicker here, BUT this would be only true if there were only 100W PD compatible cables out there.
Which many people would find slightly cost prohibitive for simple uses.
Still the progress is there. Now if we could get somehow USB-c cables labelled what they really are, OR somebody invented a simple and cheap enough device you can plug a cable in to check what properties a cable has, …
Then one could stop rebuying cables to make sure to meet requirements.
