Doubly so that it is the Birdverse short story collection from Fairwood, I feel like this book has gone a bit underappreciated with RB's other books being out this year, BUT IT IS SO GOOD and I am so happy.
Is today #PrimeDay at a certain billionaire's online retail store—the one that acts as if it was modeled after the evil corporations in Science Fiction dystopias?
Well, it's also a sales day at Bookshop.org, which is a website that was created to help independent booksellers resist in the USA and UK.
Both today and tomorrow, July 12, Bookshop.org is offering free shipping on orders of physical books. Additionally, a free tote bag will be provided for purchases above $100. This seems to apply to purchases of CDs and pre-recorded players, as well.
To shop, choose your favorite online #Bookshop seller or the general site (linked below) so that a portion of sales is split up among independent stores.
You should share this with #bookstodon and @bookstodon because I know I'm not the only one that wants to make How Can This Be A Bad Financial Decision When It Involves Books?? purchases right now
Finished The Daughter of Doctor Moreau last night. Didn't hit quite as hard for me as Mexican Gothic did, but still enjoyable. 3.75/5 ⭐ #books#bookstodon#reading@bookstodon
This is book four in the Castleby series & I loved it. From the close knit community & interconnected relationships, to the seaside setting &, of course, the occasional crime - I was there, immersed in somewhere that felt like home. Although this could be read as a standalone, there are many characters all with their own backstory so I would recommend starting at book one.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The misadventures of the prickly, overworked, definitely not nurturing Professor Fitger continue in Julie Schumacher's The English Experience. I love this satirical series so much! Find out more in my review at https://abookishtype.wordpress.com/
Finished This is how you lose the time war tonight - and boy it was GOOD. You get drawn in from the first letter and honestly can't really put it down (though I had to since I don't have TIME for the time war most days, sadly). It was beautiful. I'm grateful to Bigolas Dickolas (lol) on the Birdsite - one of the last things I did on there was see them share their love of this story.
I just finished #DominicSmith ‘s latest novel. Return to Valetto. Beautiful novel with interesting and full characters, Italy, history, and long-hidden family secrets. Just lovely, highly recommend. @bookstodon#reading#books#bookstodon
"Video games are ultimately about experiences. Not simply watching or hearing, but interacting with an environment. Dante wants to give you the medieval equivalent of virtual reality. Although it is highly structured, Dante’s universe has an openness to it. And that seems to be the point."
Boys in the Valley by Philip Fracassi is the best horror book I’ve read this year so far. There’s a lot of great ones out there but this book blew my socks right off my feet. It comes out tomorrow! @bookstodon https://youtu.be/AWogPu05nn0#books#bookstodon#horror
Opening with the discovery of a dead man in an extremely remote part of Wales the team are swiftly together, except Jess who is on a course in Cardiff. When two young female holidaymakers disappear too, the investigation appears to be a thankless task. There are only four properties within a few miles of each other & no CCTV. Where do they start?
Thinking it over... if organisations won't set up on Mastodon but they will on Threads, I'd like the ability to follow them from here without signing up to Threads.
Totally understand @aussocialadmin's caution at this stage, but would be good to revisit when it becomes clearer how Threads will use federation.
I saw some of his art online and thought it looked like “Invisible Hands” from Liquid Television, which I LOVED. Same artist! This didn’t have quite the same level of twisted, creepiness as that animated series, but I was so happy to find his work in comic form. There’s more too.
I went through a brief love affair with Doctorow. But the sweetly clunky how-to-do-X-techie-thing-to-bring-down-Y-bad-guy-slash-system got too clunky for me. And repetitive too.
These short stories were OK though. Maybe he's gotten better, or maybe it's been long enough between my readings. Either way in all his writing, I still don't understand how encryption and private/public keys work (not asking for an explanation).
#BooksOf2023 #1: #KeeperOfTheLosCities #3: Everblaze. My kids have enjoyed getting into a new series after we finished the #WingsOfFire books last year. These magical adventure books are perfect for our next series together. 📚 📕
@bookstadon#BooksOf2023#11: Keeper Of The Lost Cities #6: Nightfall. This series keeps developing and my kids have really enjoyed each of the books so far. They also keep getting bigger with this book hitting 790 pages and the next hitting 845.
