Don Hertzfeldt’s “World of Tomorrow” (2015) is… the best short I’ve seen all year?

Treasure Planet -aka Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island (1883) in space- was released 21 years ago today.

It's the film that everyone says is underrated when I post about it. Every single time. :)

Bonjour la France!
Mars Express, a French animated science-fiction film directed and co-written by Jérémie Périn, hits cinemas today.

Unfortunately, sci-fi films are rarely produced in France. This one is getting very good reviews, so we're backing it and buying our tickets!🔥

Mars Express will be released worldwide in 2024.

Today marks the end of Scavengers Reign on Max.
(no, we don't know if there will be another season, but I have no confidence in Warner. And maybe it's just not necessary.)

This show has already joined my sci-fi pantheon, so I'm counting on the finale to confirm my enthusiasm. 🤞 #scifi #animation #scavengersreign #max

"It took most of human history for our population to reach 1 billion—and just over 200 years to reach 8 billion. But growth has begun slowing, as women have fewer babies on average. When will our global population peak? And how can we minimize our impact on Earth’s resources, even as we approach 10 billion?" https://youtu.be/vJ5p3pZlBi4 #Youtube #Video #Videos #Animation #Human #Population #Map #Maps #History #Histodon #Histodons @histodon @histodons

"A team of historians and scientists wanted to map cultural mobility, so they tracked the births and deaths of notable individuals like David, King of Israel, and Leonardo da Vinci, from 600 BC to the present day. Using them as a proxy for skills and ideas, their map reveals intellectual hotspots and tracks how empires rise and crumble". https://youtu.be/4gIhRkCcD4U @science @histodon @histodons

Tried adding a crouched roll to the left. No one said animation was easy.

A complete fail. Tried rolling to the left. Ended up doing some kind of breakdance.

I regret to inform you that the crouch roll now works properly so instead of a cool breakdance you get to see my terrible animation as intended.

crouch roll to the left with no breakdance skills whatsoever.

Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite anime series. I love the characters, the storyline, and the dip into sci-fi.

Maybe what I love most, though, is the opening. The retro feel to the animation/transitions is flawless and the song is absolutely delightful. It’s a track called “Tank!” by the band Seatbelts. It’s quite thematic.

Watch it here:

An assortment of some very adorable hedgehogs from illuminated manuscripts, mostly dating from the 14th and 15th c.

Snails and rabbits get a lot of attention, but personally I love the hedgehog. Especially the ones with stuff on their spines.

A standing hedgehog beside a tree, looking left.
A hedgehog, curled up, with a sublet smile. He’s facing right but looking left.

Book 2: “Cat Burglar Black” by .

I saw some of his art online and thought it looked like “Invisible Hands” from Liquid Television, which I LOVED. Same artist! This didn’t have quite the same level of twisted, creepiness as that animated series, but I was so happy to find his work in comic form. There’s more too.

Someone stitched together all the “”. The voice acting is 🤌🏽 https://youtu.be/n5sP4yRb8Mw

@bookstodon

Panel 1, someone in bed, their head covered in bandages, eyes staring and teeth bared. A weak whisper: "Come closer, Katherine. Let me see you..." Panel 2 a severe looking older woman with her hands around the shoulders of a tentative, white-haired teen: "Don't be shy. Say hello to your aunt."

Book 13: “Violenzia and other deadly amusements” by .

Four stories, the two with Violenzia were the best. I love Sala’s creepy sensibilities, but this didn’t do it for me. My library doesn’t carry many more of his books so this may be my last (for now anyway). We’ll always have “Invisible Hands” though, which I’ll link to (again!) for your delectation: https://youtu.be/n5sP4yRb8Mw

@bookstodon

Two comics panels. First: two sinister red robed figures: “Senator, we need to get you to the V.I.P. exit.” “This is outrageous! I won’ allow some lunatic female to wreck this set-up! Kill her, Frogg!” Frogg is a menacing, bald oaf with a pointy head, carrying a hatchet. “Kill!” Second: Violenzia shoots frog with her dual pistols: Bang Bang Bang Bang. Their poses are wooden and there’s no blood. It’s very cartoonish.
