Vines only set fruit when the temps go down in fall. They can be eaten raw when young and taste mostly like cucumber and hint of baby peas but less watery. Mature, needs cooking.
Not sure if I will grow again. The cucumbers are done so it’s convenient timing for this veg. I would plant it somewhere where the roots could go deeper as they struggled in the portable raised beds.
@dnc So technically it’s fine, but I’d be cautious with it. All my jalapeños did that last year and they were nuclear, fire bomb hot. I looked it up and apparently it’s to do with the weather, if it’s really hot and dry, the amount of capsicum increases in the pepper and you get lines appearing. It really sucked because I had a bumper harvest but after a couple of attempts cooking with them, I had to admit defeat.

Top left and right- a couple of #heritage peas- I grow a number of mange-tout /snow peas/sugar peas and soup varieties- several start out as the first and mature to the second. Most of the flowers look like these-- some combination of pink or burgundy with white/lighter. I'd grow these just for the look of the plants-- I have some with deep violet pods also. #Gardening#insects#FlyDay#Alberta#Canada
