Review: The Fall of Gondolin, by J R R Tolkien (edited by Christopher Tolkien)
On the blog, my newest review is over on the @NerdsofaFeather blog today
"When the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn’t pan out."
Today's indie author review! Flotsam by R.J. Theodore:
"An amazing ride through a world full of wonders... a frothy (sometimes blood-frothy) blend of fantasy and sci-fi, an exhilarating voyage through a strange new world in the company of a fascinating collection of character,."
Today's indie author review! Repairing Destiny" by Geneva Vand:
"A delightful story set in a fantasy kingdom. ... For adult readers the plot might seem flimsy, but I found myself wanting to read on and thoroughly enjoyed the experience."
As one participant in yesterday's discussion put it - the story of a crumbling family, in a crumbling society, The Promise tells the tale, in particular, of three siblings, Anton, Astrid and Amor, their parents and extended family, against the backdrop of the ending of apartheid in South Africa.
@bookstodon My #review of #SanctuaryWithKings by #KathrynMoon is now live! This was a fantastic conclusion to the Birsha Arc, and I liked the plot and the characters of this book more than those in the first two of the series.
@bookstodon Tomorrow (today in Australia and New Zealand) is #Ageism Awareness Day. What really good novels have you read that feature older protagonists?
These come to my mind:
Remnant Population, Elizabeth Moon
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, Olga Tokarczuk
Today's indie author review! Chaos and Conjurations by K.L. Noone & K.S. Murphy:
"An entertaining MM romance set in a Regency England ... builds well on the plot arcs of Spells and Sensibility. Recommended, especially for fans of alt-historical fantasy romance."
Today's indie author review! Sting in the Tail by TA Moore:
"A horror-filled, dark fantasy tale that doesn't shy away from the grit and gore. The connection between Ledger and Wren filled with snarky banter and a steamy romance. Scarily entertaining and worth the read!"
Just posted some brief thoughts on Life by Keith Richards - which I had expected to find interesting (as a fan of the band), but ended up finding fascinating, and turning into an admirer of the man (and not just because he's amazingly still alive!)
