Today is the last day of the Dutch Children's Book Week. Every year you can get a free children's book if you spend a certain amount of money on children's books during that week. A while ago I found this Children's Book Week book from 1986 at the thrift store and I figured now was a good time to read it. It's a mixed-media mystery that makes me wish the Book Week gifts wouldn't have such a strict format these days and I can definitely imagine that it could make children excited about reading.

RICHARD OSMAN’S LATEST Thursday Murder Club adventure is his best one yet. Impeccably plotted, full of wit and fun, it’s also a marvelously observant portrayal of the power of love and friendship. A MINUS
I’ll rate this somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars. It took a long time for me to actually finish reading this book. I picked it up and put it down so many times, because I was annoyed with the main character’s personality and behavior and I didn’t exactly enjoy the pacing. But once I finally was determined to finish it, everything I thought I knew about the story changed. Sarah Pearce wrote so many plot twists and turns, I never would’ve guessed the truth on my own. Besides the mystery of solving the murders was also Elin’s journey to the truth—not only of the current situation but also of her past. After all she’s experienced at Le Sommet, I hope she continues on a path of healing.
Side note… The truth behind the murders and the horrifying past of the hotel???? I almost want to call it unhinged.
MYSTERIES IN A MAGICAL VILLAGE and a confusing love…quadrangle? pentangle? have a cheery spirit medium seeing double. Cozy paranormal mystery is loaded with charm. SOLID B

This is the 4th entry in the Inheritance Games series. The books are a mashup of #ActionAdventure and #mystery and are a lot of fun, with snappy dialogue and good puzzles. Recommended on #audiobook too.
I’m #reading via #audiobook Devil’s Bride (#book 1/Cynster but 2nd chronologically). I think I first #read this #historical#romance#mystery in 2009 when it was released & have listened to it before, too. When reading on paper or ebook, it’s possible to skip the epically long sex or nearly-sex scenes - pretty sure one of them lasts over 20 pages. This one is neither my favorite nor my least favorite of the Cynsterverse. #books#romancelandia#bookstodon@romancebooks https://amzn.to/45RSI7h
I finished The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. I decided that something light was in order after that so I grabbed If Mashed Potatoes Could Dance by Paige Shelton. I think a fun cozy mystery is just what I need right now.
#Library guest: “I don’t think you can help me. I don’t remember the title or the author but one of the detectives is named Pentecost.” Oh ye of little faith. #mystery#bookstodon@librarians
Five stars: Death by Iced Coffee by Alex Erickson and Melissa Moran (Narrator) is the eleventh book in the Bookstore Cafe mystery series. Krissy Hancock takes part in Pine Hills's first ever marathon on a scorcher of a day. As the race is reaching the hills one of the race's organizers is found murdered just off the route.
Five stars: Murder on Cape Cod by Maddie Day and Rachel Dulude (Narrator) (2019) is the start of the Cozy Capers Book Group mystery series. While coming home from book club, Mackenzie "Mac" Almeida stumbles over the body of Jake Lacey. He's been stabbed with her brother's knife. To make matters worse, her brother has gone back to drinking after being suspiciously absent right after the murder.
I reviewed The Graveyard Shift by Maria Lewis for Grimdark Magazine! A late-night radio host finds herself targeted by a Scream-style slasher. Fast and fun, but maybe a bit too light-hearted?
