You're all going to love the battles in my upcoming big-budget . Completely soundless! Beam weapons are targeted by computers, fire continuously for several minutes, are invisible to outside view, and never miss! Protective fields don't exist! Hull punctures cause explosive decompression and the immediate death of the entire crew!

The rule is are better than based on them. I think they accomplish different things though: books have more detail, movies can show what you may have missed

While I think usually books are better, I have a theory that DO adapt well. Simply, they have less material to adapt so they can add more depth to what is there. A great example is Wizard of Oz. I've read the book - it's good, not great. The movie is, especially for its time, amazing

@theotherotherone @movies @bookstodon The Princess Bride is my go-to example for and have different purposes and can both be great. There's so much back story to characters that is lost in the movie, because otherwise it would have been painful 3+ hours long. But at the same time, the book cannot capture the brilliance of scenes like the sword fight.

There are some fun hidden details in Fringe. For instance, in the parallel universe of the series, when the Observers come out of the movie theatre after having watched Back to the Future, Eric Stoltz is listed as the main actor (episode 2x15).

Stoltz was in fact initially cast as Marty McFly, and they recorded several scenes with him before he was replaced by Michael J. Fox. Apparently, that didn't happen in the parallel universe 😁

Remember that iconic scene in Batman 2 when Catwoman uses a whip to knock the heads off a series of mannequins? That wasn't a stunt woman it was Michelle Pfeiffer. It didn't use any effects she really knocked them off with the whip. She did it in one take too. I had heard the story before but never knew there was footage of it. Brilliant work!
Michelle Pfeiffer whipped the heads off those four mannequins applause from the Batman Returns crew!
