Given the excitement with Open AI, I think it's worth remembering that AI tools are already, and have for some time been marketed and sold in K-12 settings by snake oil salesmen with little input from teachers with big promises and few to no actual tangible results other than dehumanizing teaching.
Reminds me of the silicon valley elite opening all those high tech schools and keeping their own kids the heck away from them.
This is a good time to speak up teacher folx.
Take a look at this fun activity to reflect on the New Year using Google Slides! Doesn't hurt to plan ahead! You can even use this activity in any media studies topic!
My cousin may be going abroad next year as an ESL teacher. She has studied languages herself but doesn't have ESL teacher training. She has expressed an interest in reading some good books on language teaching & ESL teaching specifically to get prepared.
Can anyone in #teaching circles recommend good books on how to teach ESL that have practical, actionable advice for a smart, educated, motivated aspiring teacher?
There's a free webcast tonight from the National Humanities Center on Public Health Literacy that might interest many of you:
Beyond “Just Follow the Science”: Concepts and Tools for Teaching Public Health Literacy in the Classroom, led by historian Nancy Tomes. Learn strategies to develop new forms of public health literacy.
I have never heard so many educators say "I don't know what to do about that" as I have seen this year, including me.
I was reminded by a colleague that some of the post-COVID things we are faced with have never been seen before and tools and skills we have previously employed do not work for some of the new challenges we face.
Hm.
#Onderwijs#Online#Storm#Edutooters@edutooters
Teachers, if you are looking for resources to talk with students about genocide within a safe, compassionate framework, my friends a Journeys in Film can help.

10 years ago, teacher Twitter was extremely helpful to me. There's the #teaching hashtag here, which is nice, but are most people still on X? Or worse, Facebook?
Trying to build that side of my timeline back up. Boots appreciated along with recommendations of who to follow.
@brianb@NewScience101@edutooters Hi, Brian. Search on hashtags like #education#edtech#science#academics#edutooters and add those when relevant to your posts. I try to follow only education or educator accounts. I will share my following list later with you and you can import them so you can get going with more edu folks. That said, it is sparse here…and different. I find value every day.
