It's rare when a book can surprise, disturb, AND disgust me but THE HANDYMAN METHOD and its imagery has left a few dents on my psyche. This tale of a Haunted House from Hell from Sullivan & Cutter is crazy, gory, dreadful, brutal, & damn wicked. I loved every horrific page. (Saga Press)

Catherine McCarthy's MOSAIC is itself a mosaic: the deftly assembled pieces of mystery, folk horror, & cosmic horror reveal a satisfying, rich novella w emotional depth that's vivid, engrossing, & atmospheric. A modern twist on a familiar mythos that horror fans will relish. (Dark Matter Ink)

Dare to Know (James Kennedy) 6/10

This is either a 4/10 or an 8/10 and since I can't figure out which I'm splitting the difference.

Told in first person, this is a story of the midlife crisis of a man whose profession is predicting the precise time of death for clients.

The entire book comes off dark, grimy, and more than a little incoherent/trippy. It's on purpose, but is very jarring.

I either liked it a lot or kinda hated it. I'm not sure which.

DEHISCENT is a tale that defies easy categorization & is utterly, wonderfully unique. This vivid, striking debut from Ashley Deng is filled with haunted things: a house, a planet, a society, a little girl. It's delicate; sweetly horrific- an earthy, enthralling, eerie read. (Tenebrous Press)

HAUNTING LESSONS will haunt you. Patrick Barb has created a tragic little tale that packs a powerful punch of pathos & pain within its spare but effective/affecting prose. Caitlin Marceau's illustrations are the perfect compliment to this poignant, unique, memorable story. (Shortwave)

Book review: Rahul Ranjan's 'Political Life of Memory: Birsa Munda in Contemporary India'

While we predominantly consume the image of Birsa Munda as an anti-colonial figure and in very etatised and hinduised forms, Rahul Ranjan’s Political Life of Memory: Birsa Munda in Contemporary India forcefully intervenes to bring out the voices of the subaltern. An intervention in ethnohistory and politics of indigenous groups, the book shows how memory is significant in the life and struggles of indigenous groups in the state of Jharkhand.

📚 Finished reading White Noise by Mercedes Mercier.

This book follows Dr. Laura Flemming, a prison psychologist tasked with writing a parole report on an inmate who seems to be a model prisoner, but who she feels is hiding something.

An excellent debut novel. A page-turner that won't disappoint fans of the thriller genre!

CAMP DAMASCUS is a sweet, earnest hug for queers & "weirdos" AND a scorching rebuke of intolerance/ persecution. This #book contains genuine horror, but the magic is in how it also remains a joyous celebration of/for Outsiders everywhere. Love is real! So is @chucktingle's talent. (Tor/Nightfire)

Sign Here (Claudia Lux) 9.5/10

An intersecting story set half in the present day, and half in an eternal Hell.

Hell in this world is darkly corporate, with the damned working their way up to eventually be able to sign away the souls of the living (after being tortured for near eternity). The two main damned souls are a lot of fun.

The other half of the book is a tense family drama with a super-dark twist.

A very unique book - sharp, intense, and human.
