It'd be cool if #ActivityPub had a way to log in with your accpunt on another AP server. Like, if I wanted to check out kbin it'd be nice if I could reuse my mastodon account.
One of the small things I managed to do while sick this week was to add support for <link rel=alternate type="application/activity+json"> for all the pages where this makes sense.
So now the instance and the individual users are directly discoverable on Mastodon instances by entering the URL in the search box. (Accepting the follows is not functional at the moment... oops)
Now, consider these two items in combination. A lot of athletes are sharing their training and competition diaries with fans in apps like Strava as well as Instagram. AP could link them together.
Thinking about Hacker News but sprinkled with #activitypub
imagine being able to reply and participate to any #HN post from the #fediverse and with #webmentions have fediverse comments mingled with native HN activity.
I'm hearing rumours that #NodeBB is adding support for #ActivityPub. Some folks have told me that this implementation will have group federation capabilities similar to #Lemmy and #Kbin.
I need to investigate this rumour further. If true, this is huge.
At the very least, I know NodeBB is discussing ActivityPub.
Years ago, I installed my own #Mastodon server out of sheer technical curiosity. I abandoned it as soon as I found out it worked. Later, I became a #Twitter consumer, and the #Musk buyout made me create a second Mastodon account. Now there's a #redditmigration, and I found out that you can follow and interact with #Lemmy posts from within my Mastodon app. I find this incredible and love the #Fediverse!
Now I am curious whether #Matrix and #Nextcloud could similarly be integrated.
Yeah this looks like a pain point at the moment. I’m going with “I’m a newb to lemmy’s way of linking” by default as I’m sure I’m just doin it wrong. If not, hopefully that can be made more seamless, or the knowledge of how to do it the right way can spread far enough that it becomes a non-issue.
We've got @devnull working on it. I'm hoping we don't miss the boat by the time it can be rolled out, but we want to do right by the #fediverse and come out swinging with a highly interoperable frontend to the fediverse-at-large.
Stay tuned here for more info as the story (and branch) develops!
You can't just distribute them across instances the way normal actors do. Whichever server hosts @technology or @technology is going to get HOSED on the regular.
YouTube: videos were always 2nd to "native" ones on the other networks, but they could trivially open an #ActivityPub firehose (and maintain their preroll ads while doing so)
rest of Google: never found organic success and don't have a bet in the game apart from wanting to index everything
No predictions here, just stating the obvious. @fediverse
2021
Mein aktivstes Jahr beim Pluginkollektiv.
say, #fediverse, is peertube the only #activitypub based software that supports instance←→instance federation? i struggle with my peertube setup and would like to give another software a try. which softwares support instance-following as well? #followerpower
@grindhold@hexmasteen it’s the only one I know of off hand, because PeerTube creates a fake “peertube” user which other AP instances can follow for the full feed. For example, you could even instance follow my PeerTube instance from Mastodon, by following @peertube. Most other AP implementations rely on relays instead of this psuedo-user approach, which both instance operators have to opt in to.
