I would love an actual Razr that works, but foldables just seem like a cheap gimmick. I’m happy with my 13 pro, I wouldn’t want any bigger though. My wife on the other hand has no intentions of abandoning her Mini no matter what Apple offers in full size models to come. I do envy my co worker with a mini that can keep it in a sleeve pocket though.
When there is a right wing manifesto for a shooting it is very quickly released to the public. That is why there is controversy around this because it appears to be blatantly partisan to block a manifesto simply for being from the “wrong” side.
The majority of them aren’t specifically left or right. There’s been a few right ones in the last few years that are paraded in the news nonstop but nowhere near enough to call it “typical.” The silence around this one is far more telling than the actual statistics on motives. Now if you expand the definitions beyond random public massacres and include gang shootings to get to the desired “300th mass shooting this year” metric then the typical politics of the shooters swing wildly away from the right.
The bottom line is the perpetrators of the type of horrific events the average person thinks of when they hear “mass shooting” are going for media attention which triggers more. The media coverage is the final cause of these so nonstop coverage highlighting a right wing connection sets off other deranged people with similar thoughts. I don’t think any of them on either side should get the attention or publicity but selecting which ideologies to give 24/7 coverage is even worse than publicizing them all.
The US supreme court will hear oral arguments on Tuesday in a case which gun and domestic violence prevention groups are warning could be a matter of life and death for thousands of abuse victims and their families....
That is already a thing. The prohibited persons restriction of the Lautenberg Amendment applies to any possession, not just ownership. Even the military is required to continually verify that servicemembers are still legally allowed to be issues weapons for duty.
The US version is a system that calculates the risk of loaning money vs being paid back. In order to be approved for a loan the credit score is used to evaluate whether or not it is likely to be paid back within the terms of the loan. As a result those with bad credit have trouble getting favorable terms for cars, housing and basically anything that can’t be purchased outright. Does it negatively affect people for things outside of their control and perpetuate cycles of poverty? Absolutely, but it is based in actual fiscal risk to calculate sustainable loan practices.
China on the other hand took the US term of “credit” and abused the everloving shit out of it to punish people that the government dislikes. Did your cousin post a Xi Jinping Winnie the Pooh meme? Well too bad that you were shopping for a house, because your “credit” is no longer high enough to not be homeless. You should have thought of that before you were related to someone who disagreed with the government!
Not being able to demonstrate to a bank that you are financially reliable enough to pay back a loan is unfortunate, but a rational reason for an unfavorable interest rate or denial of a loan. Making people ineligible for even renting an apartment that is within their financial means because the dictator in charge dislikes you is a completely different thing altogether.
There are only fighter escorts if there is a specific threat with hostile intent that requires them. Most non-fighter Air Force aircraft don’t fly with escorts routinely.
The Chinese are absolutely allowed to fly planes there. What is against international law is unsafe intercepts and flying within 10 feet of another aircraft.
Not always, I fly 10 feet away from another plane all the time. The difference is we planned it from the beginning and are both actively participating.
Absolutely, intercepts have prescribed international standards that must be observed to ensure safety of flight. I was just commenting that it’s not always a bad idea if done correctly.
US ships and aircraft follow international law and don’t endanger others with illegal maneuvers. You’re allowed to be there, you’re not allowed to try to almost hit (and in multiple cases actually hit) someone else that is allowed to be there.
The real downfall of the NRA was them pandering to internal politics rather than advocating for gun rights. They were never anywhere close to the top of the list for highest spending lobbyists, their actual power came from an active member base of avid voters. As they gave more and more concessions and actively supported “compromises” that did nothing but give away more and more gun rights their members shifted to other, more effective groups.
That and free admission to gun shows for a $12 membership signup. The actual 2A community ditched them years ago. Now they’re just a convenient sacrificial punching bag.
I remember when you could find what you were looking for by googling it. Those were good days. Seriously though, google search, google maps and many other google products simply do not work anymore. They deliberately removed functionality for short term monetary gain and have lost the dominance they once had simply due to their products not working the way they did 10 years ago.
Bigger and heavier vehicles (more specifically “trucks” which aren’t legally defined by their beds and encompass virtually anything larger than a simple sedan) are exempt from the majority of fuel economy standards. As a result many auto makers have just straight up stopped making “cars” and shifted entirely to larger vehicles because they can get away with more emissions. Yes, a 2023 SUV is slightly more efficient than a 2013 SUV, but so many more of them are being sold instead of cars that the overall emissions are way higher. I love my Ford Focus from 2017 but Ford literally cancelled every single sedan, coupe and hatchback other than the Mustang and now exclusively makes SUVs, trucks and a single sports car.
Aw man I miss my Volvo wagon. I should have never sold it. I would love to get another used one but I would have to pay triple what I sold it for to get it back these days, prices are just insane since they stopped making anything decent years ago.
First off, I don’t base my views on “what Americans are like” with what people post online. Just about everyone I know personally has just gone off the deep end it seems....
Not sure who you’re talking to and interacting with. Had to move from Seattle to the middle of Oklahoma last year for work and none of what you describe is the norm here, meanwhile Seattle is a whooooooole different animal.
Automatic probably would have had fewer since it would have missed with most the shots. Lethality like that requires controlled and aimed fire with individual shots.
All the photos I’ve seen are normal magazines, I’ve also never seen an AR that takes clips. Optics are kinda standard for most rifles these days and even many pistols too. Nothing really out of the ordinary. He seems far more proficient with the weapon and tactics though, training is a much bigger factor in lethality than equipment.
Automatics are extremely expensive, rare and usually illegal to own. They also do not have much tactical use in a scenario like this. Continued fire is primarily for suppression in squad movements. Sainted individual shots will always be more effective for portable, handheld weapons.
All you’re doing is showing that you’ve never actually fired an automatic weapon, because what you are saying is flat out wrong. Even in a bowling alley or somewhere else with densely packed people, automatic fire is going to miss with the majority of rounds fired. Pinpoint accuracy is not required but some sort of accuracy is; in even the best conditions automatic is simply too uncontrollable and too fast. If he was actually a firearms instructor he would absolutely know this as well.
Most guns have some simple way to convert to full auto illegally but if the talk is about preventing atrocities with bans, like the general discussion here, they are already banned.
For AR-15s it’s not a sear though, you’re thinking of glocks which function completely differently.
Yeah, DIAS aren’t $20 or that easy to make and as such aren’t as common on the black market. They are doable for someone with machining skills but for an AR a lightning link is the normal illegal conversion.
Vegas it was never determined by the investigation if he used bump stocks or illegally modified full autos. He also fired more than 1100 rounds into a crowd upwards of 20,000 and killed 60 with less than 500 injuries to include shrapnel. He missed with the majority of his shots in a far denser crowd and from a fixed firing position where the guns were functionally mounted versus being hand held.
It’s not super complex design but it requires multiple, small and somewhat precise pieces. Someone with enough skill could absolutely do it but there are far easier options than a sear so homemade sears aren’t something that is seen that much among illegally modified ARs.
There’s more to it than just clicking print. DAIS require multiple pieces across several axles to interface correctly. Lightning links you can make with tin snips and a flat piece of steel.
Cnc vs printing semantics aside, the strength of the ghostgunner is milling out receivers, not crafting internals. True DIAS are far harder to make than a simple piece of flat metal over the trigger group. The simpler, easier to print, ones are far less reliable and common. A sear is not the preferred way to convert an AR.
Still can’t believe I’ve avoided it this long. Responded super strongly to the vaccine so I can’t imagine I would be asymptomatic. I was also traveling all over during the worst of it.
Edit It has been pointed out that I latched onto the color and shape of the grill that is generally on the sportier Ford Foci and forgot about the 2012 base model. I hate when people delete comments and leave a graveyard of broken context so I’m leaving it up but I was wrong on what the blue car is.
Interesting, the blue car is clearly a ‘09 Ford Focus RS but it appears to be in Nitrous Blue, a color only available on the ‘16-‘18 Focus RS. Seems very specific.
Not a blunder, just something very specific. I’ve seen mk3 RSs repainted to the mk2 green. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if someone did a mk2 in mk3 blue. It’s an enthusiast only detail that wouldn’t normally happen by accident so I’m wondering what the reference for the drawing was from.
I guess I’m just so used to seeing STs and RSs over base models I go looking for them everywhere. The color, which could just have been an artificial shift during the drawing or sharing process, changed the hue to really match the RS color making me go instantly to the sportier line.
Investigators said they were able to stop the potential massacre at Park Valley Church in Haymarket thanks to someone who saw troubling posts on Instagram and called police...
It is worth pointing out that in the Las Vegas shooting the investigation never concluded if he actually used the bump stocks. Some of the guns had them installed but with his amount of preparation and knowledge of firearms he could have just as easily modified them to be fully automatic. During the course of the investigation they specifically prohibited the ATF from inspecting any of the weapons for modifications and merely said that the use of the bump stocks was a possibility, not a fact. The bottom line is it isn’t known one way or another if he actually used them, he might have but the firing rate was more consistent than most bump firing.
So the GOP is pouring water into their sinking raft over abortion and Biden decided “oh shit, I need to find a way to ruin my chances and even the playing field.” Got it.
So I totally missed half of them on the last panel. I was thinking Ted lasso but I did see the boys. That’s what I get for lemmying while taking my half asleep morning poo.
