LetKCater2U, in What tree is that? Location: Crete, Greece

My phone says it’s a Carob tree.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carob

AchtungDrempels,

Oh yeah, i am sure that it is a carob tree. I was browsing images of cretan trees earlier, the carob tree was featured, but the fruit were in such a different looking state that i didn’t make the connection.

Thank you!

AchtungDrempels, in What tree is that? Location: Crete, Greece

I have taken two more photos of what i believe to be the same type of tree:

I thought Sideroxylon spinosum, known as argan, or an olive tree. I don’t know much about plants though

johnnycashsguitar, in Found something in Duxbury, MA

Ghost pipes. I used to think they were a fungus.

johnnycashsguitar, in Is my quest of finding Chamomile growing near my home over? :D

Looks like some type of chamomile…

You should be fine harvesting the plant. Nobody’s gonna care about something as small as that.

If harvesting the plant, bring some scissors and cut off the top third of the plant, leaving ample leaves at the bottoms for the plant to regenerate. Don’t pull it up by the roots unless you’re going to transplant it.

Redx, in Which variety of Alocasia is this? It does not have a velvety texture.

Looks like a heart to heart plant that I have but mines red. Philodendron Gloriosum

SoySaucePrinterInk,

The leaves didn’t have a velvety texture. Do they get that once they mature?

Redx, (edited )

I read that about the texture as well. Don’t know about this version but like I said I have a red one and it’s smooth looking just like your picture. Also, my bad… says mine is a caladium. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/28f0b269-2056-430a-9489-51b3ef1e7e62.jpeg

SoySaucePrinterInk,

That’s alright! I like the colour on your caladium. :)

I'd love to have some of that for my Toad's enclosure. He'd love it.

Bigfish, in What are these? From Northern Ireland

I hope someone told you it was a fuchsia by now. Because it’s a fuchsia. And a biggun at that. Something like Black Cherry from the looks of it. www.portlandnursery.com/perennials/fuchsia

Grass ID is usually impossible without seeing the inflorescence. Though I’m no good at it either way.

Glad I googled that, I was about to go outside with a black light.

LibertyLizard,

Haha well you never know. Maybe some species are fluorescent and others are not. But finding information on that could be a challenge.

But yes I mean flowering structure. Just that most people don’t think of grasses as having flowers.

zories, in What's this grass?

Looks like the kinda grass you’d wanna walk barefoot in a meadow of.

Officially? No idea, sorry.

It’s super soft.

sir_pronoun,

Man, you just keep making all of us more jealous of your grass. Reel it in, we’re suffering here

LibertyLizard, (edited ) in Any idea what this is? Seek says it's in the genus Erythroxylum, but it can't get any more specific than that.
@LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net avatar

Unfortunately, the Caribbean is a large and very diverse region which is underrepresented among the community here and probably in training data for plant apps as well.

If you can come back when it flowers or fruits that would make it easier. Or sharing a more specific location.

Erythroxylon rotundifolium, urbanii, carthagenense, havanense, and especially brevipes all look superficially similar but I’m not familiar with this genus. They all have glaucous leaf undersides so consider adding a photo of that feature to help verify.

If you are really committed to IDing the plant, you may need someone with local expertise.

Daryl76679,

Lesser Antilles is only slightly more specific isn’t it. I’m in the Virgin Islands

@Daryl76679
I'd say it's too early to guess, sadly. Flower, fruit, or habit could help.

Daryl76679,

I’m in the Caribbean if that helps.

This is very unscientific, but it reminds me of a young blueberry.

It was a sunflower
