Oh yeah, i am sure that it is a carob tree. I was browsing images of cretan trees earlier, the carob tree was featured, but the fruit were in such a different looking state that i didn’t make the connection.
You should be fine harvesting the plant. Nobody’s gonna care about something as small as that.
If harvesting the plant, bring some scissors and cut off the top third of the plant, leaving ample leaves at the bottoms for the plant to regenerate. Don’t pull it up by the roots unless you’re going to transplant it.
I hope someone told you it was a fuchsia by now. Because it’s a fuchsia. And a biggun at that. Something like Black Cherry from the looks of it. www.portlandnursery.com/perennials/fuchsia
Unfortunately, the Caribbean is a large and very diverse region which is underrepresented among the community here and probably in training data for plant apps as well.
If you can come back when it flowers or fruits that would make it easier. Or sharing a more specific location.
Erythroxylon rotundifolium, urbanii, carthagenense, havanense, and especially brevipes all look superficially similar but I’m not familiar with this genus. They all have glaucous leaf undersides so consider adding a photo of that feature to help verify.
If you are really committed to IDing the plant, you may need someone with local expertise.
