Are people seriously getting mad at women for giving them free content and suggesting you can support them if you like it and want to see more?

This place will die without sex workers.

yesbum,
@yesbum@lemmy.world avatar

yes, yes they are 😆

Oftenhorny,

While I agree that this place is too small to survive without them, for me knowing that every post and interaction on here it’s just an ad to make me pay takes out a lot of the fun

b9999998,

Nobody is asking you to pay or to click on the links. Down vote (if you care so much) or simply move on.

Oftenhorny,

That’s not the point, it still is an ad. Just like the companies that make memes as ads on socials, maybe it’s fun too but you know it has another purpose

fireflower, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

You already barely have any content.

Are you stupid enough to try and suffocate the people giving you content?

baconboy,

Are you suggesting users posting the same suggestive pic/gif to 20 subs are providing meaningful content?

Promo-content easily suffocates real OC.

Biapathy,

It baffles me that people don’t see this. When you allow a place to be used as the equivalent of a newspaper classified then that’s all it’s going to be. It actively dissuades any non-commercial posts.

KhalBrogo1, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Yes

johnjamesautobahn, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

The spirit of the original GW rules was to limit the sub to true amateur exhibitionists, so the community knew that anyone posting there was doing it for the fun of showing off. Allowing anyone who does it for money creates ambiguity if the post is for fun or advertising, and I feel that’s a negative.

I generally feel people who share good quality content and engage with communities are welcome, just not in gonewild or nofans which is by nature a seller-free space.

GiaWildly_OF_Promo,

side note: The original GirlsGoneWild was a set of adult videos, where producers **paid ** girls to lift their shirt. Those girls were amateurs, not normally sex workers in any regard. The difference I think you meant to point out is that you dont like seeing sex workers, and prefer to see women who like showing off for attention rather than currency. Not a combative statement, just want to point out that was the namesake basis at least, of the subreddit, so the way I see it, “gonewild” implicitly includes sex acts for money.

If this seems argumentative or snotty, its honestly not meant to, if its coming across wrong and i sound like a bitch just let me know please. I respect your views and opinions. Also, I was NOT around for the “original intent of GW” so if that was the poignant part of your statement, and I’m not up to speed on why, then I apologize.

johnjamesautobahn,

that’s true— I was referring to reddit gonewild, whose name may have referenced the girls gone wild video series but who started from the beginning as an amateur exhibitionist space for Reddit karma rather than money.

fireflower,

Is reddit culture really something you want to be chasing?

b9999998,

Reddit GW was taken over by a bunch of power hungry mods who did not care about posters or members in community… So it’s not a model of community that I would advocate emulating wrt “spirit of…”

CuminClove, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

If there is a full ban then I think we relegate ourselves to either just getting reposts from other sites or having a tiny amount of posts. I’d like to see some restriction, but I think a full ban is too much.

Allowing links in comments but not posts sounds about right to me. But I’m open to other proposals.

This is a concern of mine, there are a lot of high-voted posts here that contains these “banned” links that I’d be removing if I listened to every content report. I also don’t want the content quality to drop to the point that we’re primarily re-posting OF advertisements.

PutangInaMo,

Start a transition plan, give a timeline and enforce a cutoff date. Keep it in the profiles. I personally downvote every post I see with s link in it.

fireflower,

Youre asking for a content quality drop with that ban, when what few people who do post here abandon the sinking ship

lobster_fowl, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

There are some awesome creators on here who have been great for the community, they regularly engage with users, post great original content, and I think it’s fair that they want to sell their services and support themselves. I’m not opposed at all to links in their bios.

The last week or so has had a deluge of low quality posters and frankly it does not spark joy to browse my feed. I don’t even trust that these posters are who they say they are – the titles and bios are basically all the exact same format with the same emojis in the same places, and sentence the structure that’s filled in with a basic form/script, and their post titles feel optimized to shit and lifted from other platforms.

I think additional verification for promoted content is required.

b9999998,

Unless you are a moderator of a communit(ies), it’s very easy to simply block off accounts you don’t want to see, especially if you yourself know how to detect authentic posters vs “low quality posters”.

CautiousCuriosity, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Yes, no advertising links

Sharkcatfish, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Yes please

Empricorn, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

If OF subscribers and mods decide they want advertising, they should remove Rule 7. Until then, it should be banned, as that’s the consensus. No one seems to have a problem with links in profiles, however.

AnaisRim, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

No.

The best content creators here have OF accounts. They need to eat too. Close them off and this place will slow to a crawl.

This is a self-defeating move.

trusted_pizza, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Yes - We should ban these

OtakuAltair, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Would probably kill off a good 50% of posts. So no.

shortwavesurfer, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Yeah, ban them. I want people to post because they want to, not because they are advertising. Makes the posts more genuine as well.

lemmyboi,

There will be no incentive, it should be limited but not outright banned

GiaWildly_OF_Promo,

What if we like to tease though? I didn’t get into OF only because of $, I really enjoy showing off too. But I also have bills, and mouths to feed.

If i just tease a bit, and don’t link to my OF, since it’s in my Bio, especially if posts are tagged as promotional somehow, that’s something between the black and white areas you’ve described, how do you feel about that? Not playing devil’s advocate too much here, trying to just get a better understanding of people’s feelings about this, since it’s relevant to me.

shortwavesurfer,

I don’t see a problem with it if it’s in your bio because if I’m really interested in the person, then I would at least click their profile to see their other posts.

sanosuke001, in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Not sure why it matters. Ignore the links and don’t click them if you don’t want to. They’re still posting content, why did it actually matter other than some moral high ground for “pure” content or whatever you want to tell yourself.

As long as it isn’t copy pasted from some professional site and is at least the person posting their own stuff, I don’t care what their reasoning behind posting is.

GiaWildly_OF_Promo, (edited ) in Should we completely ban advertising links in this community?

Other communities seem to require a tag in the title to disclaim the promotional nature. That and you have no posted verification post requirements, and aren’t seeming to respond to direct inquiries on the matter, in my experience at least. I would like to post here, but as my profile/bio is (hopefully) very clear about the promotional nature of my account, I consider it rude to post without being verified, especially after the recent influx of OF accounts seeming to be managed by the same entity.

Here is what I think would work:

  • require a tag like [OC] or [promo] for accounts like mine where promotion is clearly the intent
  • do not allow promotional links to be directly linked to in post links, within post body texts fields
  • same for comments.

Its easy. If the post is tagged, users will know to see OP’s bio, if they want to pursue external links.

I assume most users here prefer the content thats not promotional, and I know most promotional accounts are just blasting out content to sell stuff. But, some of us at least, do enjoy showing off, even though we are being promotional also, and that group of users, including me, really dont want to run afoul of whatever rules you end up coming up with, so please, be clear about whatever it is you end up going with.
