Basically how reddit would call any given reddit sub-community “sub reddit” or just “sub” for short. I know internally lemmy just calls them ‘community’ but in a regular conversation ‘community’ might be interpreted as more broad or too general....
Ok, imagine this, you are on reddit (say, a slow hobby focused subreddit), everybody there is nice and knowledgeable, and one day, the mods there announced that since there is not enough “content” on the sub, they are going to use a bot to repost content from 9gag in order to “bolster engagement” and “grow the...
After years of reddit/twitter/facebook propping up fascism/bigotry with algorithms & bots I’m honestly surprised and relieved to be in an online space that clearly rejects their ideology....
I am not a computer engineer or a software developer. I have never set up a server in my life. I want to set up a server on my old computer by watching videos and doing the same things that were done. Is there a video that will tell me how to set up our own server as if I were 5 years old? We will be very happy if someone who...
You may have heard of third places before, but in case it’s new to you, they’re essentially community spaces where you can chill & socialize…Like here, I suppose! But typically they refer to in-person community spaces....
I know in my heart that it probably won’t last, but I have such an awesome feeling of a clean slate with Lemmy. It feels so much more like the old internet before it just became a shopping cart. I don’t know how long we can enjoy this brave new world, but I am here for it.
Just a small pet peeve. I know wealth of quality discussions and content is the key to a healthy community, but I find lack of an icon or banner to be a turn-off signaling low effort, especially if the community has been around for more than a week or so. Meh. Just my 2 cents.
Seems that if we delay deleting content to after July 1st it might be nigh on impossible. As traffic from goggle to old posts will still benefit reddit should we delete or not?...
Like, for example I have a specific issue with a digital audio converter by a popular brand but their customer service is awful. A simple google prompt followed by site:reddit.com would yield solutions almost every time. In fact I would say I did 90% of my googling that way. How do I break this cycle and do you feel this is one...
I’ve been on Lemmy for 12 days apparently, feels like a lifetime! And I keep seeing posts about how it’s too empty or there’s no content outside of the Reddit drama or whatever....
Edit: It seems like there’s enough people that would prefer this didn’t happen for some pretty good reasons. For that reason, I’m not going to move forward with this idea....
I’m using lemmy.world via Jerboa app, but I frequently get “timeout” pop up, sometimes crashing it. Does anyone know if this is just to do with more people suddenly using the app? Or is a bug? Or something I’m doing badly?
