I just read this post about someone who would like to have a choice to select an algorithm for their feed. However, developers cannot create something so vague without some ideas or inspiration. There is an issue with many great ideas for a customizable algorithm, but the I’ve never come across a website that has an algorithm...
I am not sure if this is the right sub, but yesterday I was having some issues with login with my user and was getting 403 error if I am not wrong and noticed that the NGINX version is exposed, which is a bad practice....
Do upvotes and downvotes work the same as reddit? I mean, I’m usually a lurker and mainly upvote posts and comments that are good. Does it affect “hot” and “active” sorting of posts and comments?
I’m not really sure where to ask this question. Maybe there’s a lemmy dev community where these kind of discussions already happen....
Background: I was in high school (public) and our school just got back from quarantine, and had everybody to take a mandatory covid test every week. Our teachers rounded us up and these people swabbed and tested us. We didn’t sign anything, we didn’t ask for this, we were just told to line up and do it....
Is the Communities page, infected?...
So I just discovered lemmygrad.ml because I saw a comment that described it as “an extremist instance”. I popped over there, and while there are def some interesting takes, it seems like a well moderated instance with extremely strict rules centered around leftism, and provides very focused content....
So im looking for things i can make or do that dont invole a compute ror my phone, i feel like i need to stop staring at a screen as much. i dont have money either and ive been wanting to go to craft fairs but im not sure what to make or how to not look at a screen as much....
Unfortunately I can’t control the weather....
Seems to me the fear of overloading one instance over another will not happen after all....
I don’t mind subscribing to remove ads and improve payments for the channels that I watch, but if I am going to pay to remove ads, I don’t want to see ads. Ever.
Why is there hostility towards suggestions to switch to lemmy from redditors?
(bot is offline, got some error that I need to figure out)...
This may seem kinda ironic to be posting about, but when I say offline, I don’t mean strictly physical (like print books), so much as stuff that still works even when internet’s disrupted or whatever....
Or was never on Reddit at all? Just curious.
For all the chocolate lovers out there, careful because effectively all dark chocolates have lead and cadmium in them. Lead is especially dangerous and some brands have alarmingly high amounts.
We talk about the Algorithm when we talk about the big social media players - what is their algorithm? It’s a mystery, and it’s certainly set up to make you see what they want you to see....
I’ve been conflicted about this. For example beehaw has a larger technology community but I’m a fan of lemmy.world so I try to post interesting content there to help the site....
Just read that lemmy.ml just did. What’s our status on this?
I’m using darkly-pureblack and it’s just such a pleasure to look at. Such an improvement already from the 0.17.X days a month ago!
Whenever I’m thinking about posting a question in Lemmy I always get this feeling that not as many people will see it if I posted it instead on Reddit....
It feels like people are a lot nicer here than on Twitter and Reddit, and even when people disagree, it’s generally civil and not an all-out flame war. Also, there’s no algorithm promoting outrage all the time....
I used to be in reddit like… All the fucking time. So much in there in so many niche subs you could scroll for hours and not see the same thing twice. Since lemmy is so much smaller and not as built up so much yet I’m not doom scrolling anymore.
