Hello #book people. Has anyone read Erasure by Percival Everett? It is soon to be a #film called American Fiction, directed by Cord Jefferson. I just finished it and would love to hear your thoughts.

Just in time for holiday travel, tomorrow is the 120th anniversary of the 1st powered flight by our hometown bicycle-building flyboys, the Wright Bros. Coincidentally, the time from us back to them is about the same as they were beyond the 1st hot air balloon. Read this book on your flights & layovers!
Okay, let's finish a story! Those survivors from the Glen Carrig have been having a fraught old time between the weather and the 'weed men', so let's get them home.

@qblueheart@smutstodon@bookstodon You are touching on a big reason I am loathe to outright demonize individual writers who use AI. It comes down to conflicting pressures on individuals. I also don't expect their individual bans to work like collective organized action. So even as it isn't something I embrace, I can empathize. The tech companies can take the brunt of my ire though! Safe to say with all my different responses, I have LAYERS of thoughts 😅
I don't remember where I stumbled on this book -- perhaps even here on Mastodon? -- but I have to say that Jeff Deutsch's 'In Praise of Good Bookstores' is a wonderful celebration not only of independent #bookstores but also of #books, #reading books, and conversations about books. And there's a bonus -- a nice mini-history of one of my favorite bookstores, the #SeminaryCoop bookstore in Chicago. Well worth the read. @bookstodon#bookstodon
If I've written a novella set a "high school" level academy, but the character is older than her classmates due to health issues keeping her out of school (so she's 17 and her classmates are 14/15)
Today's recommendation is the Raven, Fisher, and Simpson series, by Ambrose Parry. Set in 19th century Edinburgh, it follows the crime-solving adventurers of a medical apprentice and a housemaid, both of whom work in the household of Dr James Simpson, a real historical obstetrician who also discovered chloroform.
Very well researched, well-written, atmospheric books. Start with 'The Way of All Flesh'.
"I especially enjoyed this title as it approaches the popular topic of dinosaurs from an unusual angle and successfully mixes fact with genuine humour. The illustrations are really amusing too and perfectly complement the flavour of the text. It made me chuckle!"
Sitting weird on a book that I enjoyed and it was fine. But also not sure how I feel about finding the author has used exclusively AI art to promote it. I'm not trying to be a Luddite here. Sincerely. My daytime career is in tech. AI is a tool, but used in this way? Feels weird? Curious what @smutstodon and @bookstodon thinks
