I don't remember where I stumbled on this book -- perhaps even here on Mastodon? -- but I have to say that Jeff Deutsch's 'In Praise of Good Bookstores' is a wonderful celebration not only of independent but also of , books, and conversations about books. And there's a bonus -- a nice mini-history of one of my favorite bookstores, the bookstore in Chicago. Well worth the read. @bookstodon

Lucy Scoles is such a great literary critic / essayist, she makes you want to immediately read the novels she writes about. I loved this little portrait of Elizabeth Mavor (of whom I've never heard before) and her novels of love among women.

Started reading a random compilation of 1969-70 short stories that I bought while trying to keep in business during the worst of the - first one in the collection has the main character being a professional puppy murderer as a child, and being essentially a pathological killer while also being a hero and the ideal military officer. He also thought he killed an angel.

I don’t know who Howard Fast is but he has issues.
