Is Lemmy a liberal echo chamber?
You know, where dissenters get downvoted.

trimmerfrost, Just look at the removed comments from political communities in the modlog. Every non-liberal view is swiftly silenced. It’s even in the rules of many big instances, written in a ulterior fashion, so as to not rouse suspicion
Blaze, I mean, there is exploding-heads.com and a few others that are happily on the other side of the political spectrum.
ShittyBeatlesFCPres, I haven’t seen that. The Fediverse in general is more left & libertarian than liberal or conservative. You almost by definition have to be a little quirky and care about privacy or the shared commons enough to seek out alternatives to centralized, corporate social media. So, in terms of American politics, you’ll find more true independents and people who vote for 3rd parties than your normie conservative Republicans or liberal/neoliberal Democrats.
So, dissent in general is definitely appreciated on the Fediverse — we’re all here because we opted out of some popular social network — but if you’re trying to hate on or control some people you’ve never met, you’ll probably get downvoted by leftists and libertarians. But being downvoted doesn’t make it an echo chamber. It usually means you stepped outside yours.
can, With federation lemmy is many different echo chambers.
Blaze, So like a chaos chamber
hal_5700X, In the politics communities, yes. Just block them. You will be a happier person.
MaxVerstappen, If you came to talk politics, your gonna be a minority. If you came for hobbies, it’s a pretty chill place. Just block the major ragebait type communities and it’s all good.
brandacus, This is pretty tough to do though since I see new ones crop up every day in my feed
Slowy, In your feed of subscribed communities? Or in the All feed? Because yeah if you browse all and expect to only see content you like, you’re gonna have a bad time
jtk, Use the Subscribed feed.
