Apollo is the most used apps across my iPhone/iPad. While I don’t really seem to be missing Reddit, I absolutely miss Apollo. It is jarring to go from using Apollo to Mlem, but I understand that Mlem will only get better with time.
@jesusrp98 I would LOVE for the ability to somehow connect/log in with my Mastodon account so I can comment on posts with it. Even if the subscriptions are managed by the main Lemmy account, the ability to comment via Masto is pretty crucial for me
easily accessed donation for the instance host and lemmy devs, maybe even include the option to monitor individual user load on the various server instances the user has posted on
integrate, suggest, and/or streamline 3rd party image hosting options. Maybe set a target file size and quality with a jpeg converter to get any images posted as small as useful by default, even prompting a cropping tool initially as a path of least resistance for optimization.
build in a converter for MP4 to GIF to WEBP with a small size and maximum size optimization/compression. Like, for technical utility it can be important to show video, but mp4/gifs are not currently supported but animated webp is and can be uploaded directly/embedded in posts
mod sub activity monitoring separate from other feeds with options to notify by new posts, comments, reports, user, etc.
Great suggestions there (AMOLED fan here, it will happen).
A feature that I think it’s very important is the ability to donate super easily to lemmy instances. I wouldn’t be able to write this comment if not for the support of the rest of the community ❤️
I think mainly design, this app will feature Material design, rather than the look of iOS. Going to implement certain features so that it feels right and home in an iPhone.
However if you prefer the regular iOS theme, there should be other alternatives, like mlem.
In the end, it’s just personal choice, and having multiple options is great for all of us :)
I was really thinking that EyeSight would be the first thing to be touchbarred but it looks like I might be wrong.
Anyway, we got plenty of time before the headset’s release. Original iPhone was announced at $1000 but rapidly saw its price go down to $500. Let’s hope for the best
Apollo is definitely my favorite app, and Reddit (was) my favorite site. Lemmy seems like it’ll be able to scratch that itch, so here’s hoping it takes off.
Also greatly looking forward to what Christian does next.
Lemmy is rough around the edges but much better than I expected once I learned how to subscribe, sort how I wanted. Using it definitely makes me realize how amazing Apollo was. I miss simple things like being able to hide what I’ve already viewed.
Apollo is a great app; I think people like it so much because Christian has always been so engaged with the user community and has (mostly) been responsive to people. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call it a work of art, and I don’t necessarily agree with all of the monetization limitations that were built in to it, but it is unquestionably one of the apps I’ve used the most over the years and it will be sorely missed.
Wow, I almost forgot these existed. They are neat little things. I recall seeing the Unbox Therapy video for this almost a decade ago and thinking it was one of the coolest computers out there.
I haven’t been this excited about something since the original iPhone. I want one so bad. Telling myself I’m going to wait for the 3rd gen tho. Can’t afford one anyway.
What did you like about Apollo? I used ReddPlanet instead. I wasn't going to pay for Apollo before I could figure out what I was getting and that I would like it. ReddPlanet had everything I wanted and payment was cosmetic and supporting lupeski.
Apollo is similar! iirc the only "functional" feature locked beyond a paywall is submitting posts (which you could argue is a pretty big feature to lock away). But I think the majority of users rarely submit posts, and the "pro" tier was just a one-time $5 payment. I found Apollo very intuitive to use and very minimalistic; there was very little fluff to distract from posts and comments.
To my recollection making posts was never locked behind a paywall - I used Apollo for most of its lifespan without paying for it, but did get Apollo Ultra eventually for notifications.
