calmblue75, in The year is 2030, astronauts have for the first time landed on Mars, they found a cave with human skeletons, and a message written on the wall. What does it say?

TonyHawksPoTater, in Wich B&W movie has surprisingly not aged ?
@TonyHawksPoTater@kbin.social avatar

I came into this thread to say 12 Angry Men, but because OP already named it I'll say A Face in the Crowd. It stars Andy Griffith as an egomanic drunk who finds fame as a radio star and later TV personality, and uses it to leverage the public opinion to the point where he himself is meeting with high level government officials. It's a chilling chronicle of one man's descent into madness and eventual self-destruction by his own doing, all for a taste of fame and power. Lonesome Rhodes is a near opposite character to that of Sherriff Andy Taylor; this movie really opened my eyes to Andy Griffith's incredible range.

Maine is the closest US state to Africa.

palordrolap,

Here's a capital city one for the Brits and fans of this fair isle:

Edinburgh is due north of Cardiff.

This one blew my mind when I figured it out. I mean: Scotland is north of England. Edinburgh is in the east of Scotland. Wales is west of (most of) England.

You might (as I did) expect Edinburgh to be closer to being north of London, not so far west that it has the same longitude as Cardiff.

0.999... (infinite nines) and 1 are equal. They are two representations of the same number, like 0.5 and 1/2 (one half) are.

DrYes,
@DrYes@kbin.social avatar

While it's easy to prove rigorously I think the easiest way to think about it is to think what number/numbers could go between 0.9 repeating and 1.
I guess that it also requires a second thought experiment that if no numbers can go between two numbers, those two numbers must be the same.

edit: this might be even easier:

1/3 = 0.333... -> multiply both sides by 3
3/3 = 0.999...
1 = 0.999...

rikudou, in Is Kbin trying to be a one-stop shop for the Fediverse?
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

It would be really cool to see a all in one platform for all your Fediverse

Would it? When one software tries to do too many things, it usually sucks.

SamXavia,
@SamXavia@kbin.run avatar

@rikudou Just would be cool to see someone attempt to at least make a platform where you can see a good portion of the fediverse including videos as PeerTube doesn't seem to be quite there with how it functions atm.

I would love to see this as well, seeing as how Microblogs prosper! Please, add your ticket to https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin/issues - it's a recent fork of Kbin that's governed by a community.

Also, account for possible scope creep and try finding a solution in what Mbin already has to provide with extra steps. For example, test whether the video you post on PeerTube with one of the tags featured on a magazine does actually appear on Mbin. It most likely does not... unless you try following the PT account from Mbin? Do media previews work on these posts? We could really use some help understanding this model and possibly make a fun multimedia experience that would outgrow plain text.

SamXavia,
@SamXavia@kbin.run avatar

@vintprox Thank you for the suggestion, been using Mbin for the past couple of days and have been loving it. Sadly I'm not really good with code so can't help with any of the implications of PeerTube stuff but I will see how it reacts to Mbin and if it embeds into mbin instead of just redirecting you straight off the site.

SamXavia,
@SamXavia@kbin.run avatar

@vintprox Also just added it as a requested feature on the Mbin Github, thank you for suggesting that.

kersploosh, in Is Kbin trying to be a one-stop shop for the Fediverse?
@kersploosh@sh.itjust.works avatar

I would rather see each service mature separately and focus serving its purpose well. kbin needs enough work as it is without trying to take on even more project scope. And how many users really want or need a combined Mastodon/Lemmy/PeerTube/Pixelfed/Misskey/whatever site?

SamXavia,
@SamXavia@kbin.run avatar

@kersploosh Kbin's development seems to be slow due to the creators IRL issues as of the moment what is understandable, I know there is a team of people working on Mbin a fork of Kbin I was more wondering if they where hoping to create it into something like that or at least allow us to view things like Videos from PeerTube as that at minimum would just allow an easy "Hey This person Uploaded" without having to be on your PeerTube Instance.

Reasonable presentation, not that difficult to follow.

Free

But I would point out that I haven't tried any of that other options to learn AI, so can't really compare.

Zak8022, in Hey kbin! Have you ever driven a fast car, and I mean a really fast car. What’s it like?

I haven’t driven anything quite that fast. But in my experiences the gas pedal is just more sensitive. I’ve never experienced one that has any noticeably longer travel. In terms of co trolling it around town, that’s why you have different gears. Especially since a good portion of cars are automatic/semi-automatic/dual clutch systems that do the work for you. And when some of these systems have more than 5 or 6 gears like normal cars.

Devi, in Hey kbin! Have you ever driven a fast car, and I mean a really fast car. What’s it like?

I drove a sports car, it was super easy to speed in that car cause you had no real sign you were going too fast. The standard cars you feel they're working a bit harder, there's a bit of noise, a little rumble, you feel like the car is working. But this one I accidentally went 100mph cause the road was clear and I genuinely just thought I was doing 70.

As far as driving, I think to get those 0-60 in 0.2 seconds speeds you'd need to really slam the accelerator, driving normally it's very smooth but controllable. I don't know if that's different in an automatic, I was in a manual. I never felt it was getting away from me or whatever, but when I wanted to overtake it was super easy, you can do overtakes that you wouldn't normally attempt cause you could just pop in front very quickly.

This is like asking if whether or not KBin or Lemmy will be on the same levels as Reddit/Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp/Twitter within a year.

The answer is no, not yet, it'll take time and it'll have to be one thing at a time.

Merlu, in What's something that sounds made up, but is completely true?
