Rolando, in Duran Duran - Save a Prayer [1982]

Great song, really the one song of theirs that’s a lot more than just a pop song, and captures the full, mixed feelings of a particular state of mind.

Everyone wanted to know what that damn song meant. He finally admitted he was high as balls when he wrote.

Yeah, I remember listening to the radio and the DJ saying he had some free stuff to give away to anyone who could phone or write in with a good explanation of those lyrics. Off the back of that I rushed out and bought the 7" single and spent hours listening to it and writing down lyrics trying to get some meaning out of them.

I didn't work out what it was about, I didn't get the free shit from the radio station, but Nik Kershaw did get a additional record sold. Genius!

sin_free_for_00_days, in The Replacements - Unsatisfied (1984)

What a fantastic album. I have trouble listening to it these days because the nostalgia hits too hard.

WanderingCrow,

Definitely one that instantly takes me back in time. Front to back just solid.

ComfortablyGlum, in Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me [1984]

Whose watching?

IronpigsWizard, in Neil Young - Rockin' in the Free World

Relevant as always, unfortunately.

SzethFriendOfNimi, in The Dickies - Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)

That was such a bad film. So bad it was fantastic.

Rolando, in Freur - Doot Doot

Hey, I just realized, a couple of these guys went on to form Underworld. Funny to see them with 80s hair!

Rolando, in a-ha - The Sun Always Shines on TV (1985)

The song peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also went Top 5 in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, as well as in the band’s home country of Norway. The single reached number one in Ireland and on the UK Singles Chart which was a higher chart position there than for “Take On Me”.

PorradaVFR, in Camouflage - The Great Commandment (1983)

Great tune!

“Easy, ready, willing, overtime.

Where does it stop?

Where do you dare me to draw the line?”

Great song!

metallic_substance, in Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That

I’ve heard this song 1,000 times or more in my life I’m sure, just through general osmosis, but this is the first time I’ve actually really listened to it actively. I never really noticed that the instrumentation is so minimal. It really highlights how much talent there is in the singing. Well, I guess I’m deep diving Hall and Oats this week now

canthidium, in Cameo - Candy (1986)

When the guitar player jumps in around 1:15, his face makes me laugh every time and I can’t not watch for it.

Facts, I just giggled like an idiot when I played it back 😂

LordGloom, in Cameo - Candy (1986)
LordGloom,

You have good taste, Gloom. I wasn’t alive during the 80s, my parents just had good taste as well. Lol

LordGloom,

Oh, thank you. You too, please keep posting your parents jams.

MisterD, in Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That

No can do

Pons_Aelius, in Musical Youth - Pass the Dutchie (1982)

Thanks for this, have not heard it in decades.
