What is Lemmy?
I know there are posts out there explaining this quite well, but I would love an ELI5 version. What is Lemmy and the Fediverse?

i’ve always managed to avoid wasps by standing still. they hover around for a bit and move on. however, i’m curious if there are other, safer ways to not get bit.
I personally like Square Edges. Rounded just feels weird, Curved is even weirder.
Ive been waiting for Infinity to die and no longer work… but still works....
I used reddit for porn, and now that i can no longer do so i intend to use lemmy for porn, jerboa is pretty nice save for the occasional home refresh when im checking notifications, but no redgifs embeds, which is unfortunate considering redgifs is probably the premier place for people to post short form video content or images...
I’ve been using Lemmy and learning the ropes of the Fediverse and I’m really impressed - especially using wefwef which has replicated my Apollo experience very well....
I tried to subscribe to kbin.social/m/food, but it says there’s no posts. When I view it from that link, or from lemmy.world, it shows many posts. Why can’t I see them on lemmy.fmhy.ml?...
So just for the hell of it, in order,...
There’s a game I’m trying to remember the name of....
This is probably not the right place, but I figured I’d give it a try. I’ve been trying to copy this website so I could have offline access when tooling around the Channel Islands. I could (and probably will), just copy/paste whatever info I need for my little trips, but the fact that I can’t copy it ass over is annoying...
I’m sure that many are aware of the big names like QxR, UTR, etc. They always add their names to the filenames so that people know that its their torrent; however, this isn’t exactly a secure method for people to know that it is indeed their torrent, as anyone can easily impersonate one of those big names by renaming their...
I’ve seen a few posts today mulling over possible solutions to some of the issues caused by Lemmy’s explosive growth in the past few weeks. I’d like to walk through the situation as I see it, point out a few differences I’ve noticed in the federated model vs. what users of other social media may be used to, and offer a...
I’ve had the Pixel Fold for about a week now and have daily driven the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, 3, and 4 and flip 3 over the past few years. I have some pretty decent experience with American available foldables since they started really popping off....
Specifically you have semi autonomy over every organ in your body, just like how you have with lungs, meaning you can have control over them whenever you like, but the body will continue to function automatically if you forget about them.
I’ve just came from using a Google pixel that’s lasted me for 5 years before the battery died and since then I’ve gotten a Motorola edge one year in and the screen cracked in half while it was sitting on a table as I was watching YouTube then I got a Motorola edge and while I was at work I put my phone in my pocket for a...

This site feels extremely broken, almost unusable. I take it they wanted to release something in time to catch all the Reddit refugees
Was there recently a kbin backend change? I haven’t been able to see kbin posts all week but they’re populating now.
Or snack prep. Or if you make/use freezer packs (prepped raw/half cooked ingredients that can just be thrown in a pot) which I haven’t tried but it seems interesting.
Sorting by New on All, I see the feed peppered with Lemmit repost. Is there any way to block or filter the Lemmit instance or block the Lemmit bot so that I don’t see these soul-less reposts?...
The thought of this triggers my anxiety. I’m so glad Lemmy exist, but what if Lemmy didn’t. What would the world look like?
More concretely, I’m asking this: why aren’t applications compiled fully to native code before distribution rather than bytecode that runs on some virtual machine or runtime environment?...
Is there a way to disable access to the OPNSense GUI when entering the public IP address into a browser on the LAN?...
