My favorite phrase in coding is “9 women can’t make a baby in a month, but 9 women can make 9 babies in 9 months”.
Elon took over and fired so so so many talented engineers saying they were lazy, or incompetant, or whatever excuse he had when he really meant “they cost a lot”. Now he’s seeing the downside of that.
The phrase means you can’t take a project and throw more people at it to make it go faster because there is institutional knowledge that needs to be learned first. You can’t take a 9 month long project that 1 person is in the middle of and throw 8 more people at it and demand it gets done in a month, something Elon is really trying to push. Those 8 other people need time to onramp, to learn how the thing is being built, to learn how systems and subsystems all interact. In fact, usually this is a sign of a terrible leader because most of the time projects will slow down while you’re trying to onramp all of those other people when at that point it would have just been faster to let the one person finish.
What you can do, as Facebook obviously did, is actually project plan. They said “we need 9 babies, what do you need to get that done?” and they replied “9 people and 9 months”. and look how it paid off.
I hope Elon’s twitter tanks because of his impulsive short sighted decisions that he thinks are “projects”
It does become an addiction for sure. I thought it was a good thing to have work provide free soda, but I was up to around the same amount. Cut it out cold turkey
As American, can confidently say that yes, people drink soda as water. You can usually find people who drink directly out of the 2 liters but be mouth agape when you tell them you drink water from the tap
You know tap water ain’t healthy, right?
People are so accustomed to sugar overload they literally can’t taste anymore. I drink la croix if I want something a bit bubbly, but so many Americans make fun of la croix drinkers. “It’s like smelling a lemon from 10 feet away haw haw haw”.
No, drinks like that actually have a lot of flavor, but your taste buds are so constantly overwhelmed with sugar that your literal ability to taste has degradated
Yup, there’s a reason all of the corporate brands immediately jumped over there, and most celebrities.
The only reason I’d want to federate with threads would be for celebrities I follow, but even then I’m not sure if I’ll federate my instance with it. Definitely not creating a threads account by any means.
Threads starting up just proved to me that everyone would willingly join the empire if it gave them the smallest amount of convenience. Hell they’ll pay for the empire to have less privacy and freedom if they can.
Yeah, I read stuff like that a while back before threads, but there was a turning point. Used to be Reddit was the place you’d downvote any post about meta, insta, or any other huge social media to hell. Now tiktok videos are upvoted to the frontpage.
And Lemmy’s founders may not have views I like, but then again neither does Meta’s founders. At least with Lemmy if their views ever make it into code we can fork off of it
