reallynotnick,

Even if they lie requiring X months would at least put a cap on how many they could own since there are only 12 months in the year.

reallynotnick,

Saying “they” vs “we” would make me think he means a group he isn’t a part of. Now what that group is could be debated, could even be as broad as white people or foreigners or friends/people close to you. Hard to know without context, but the fake friends hashtag does somewhat allude to being back stabbed by people close to you (though one could apply the term friends to any group too).

I think his excuse makes sense, but I also understand how people could easily jump to assuming Jews (I’ll admit that would be my first gut reaction)

reallynotnick,

I mean for RAM I’d just look at what you are currently using when working by pulling up Activity Monitor and seeing if you have a ton of swap going on. And then figure out how long you plan on using the system and add some buffer assuming RAM needs will increase over time.

reallynotnick,

There won’t be any gerrymandering for President unless they are able to change State boarders. Voter suppression in targeted areas however is possible.

reallynotnick,

I’m going to be a god damn shark, I’ll chew all my food in one bite with my blender of a mouth.

reallynotnick,

*As long as you define limitless as 10kWh or like less than 1/5th of an EV battery

reallynotnick,

Man either the guy really thought he was going to beat this or he just needed a reason to hang on: “…he recently penned the first draft of his upcoming memoir. He had also put the finishing touches on two more Pee-wee movie scripts and was developing projects for television, including a variety show and a western called Fancypants.”

Shame those won’t see the light of day, at least not with his further involvement of course. That sounds like a ton of work. Source: yahoo.com/…/paul-reubens-best-known-pee-170902189…

reallynotnick,

Fancy? As in are these the logos for Webp and JPEG XL? Then yes, these are logos.

JPEG XL is a new image format that has better compression and more features like HDR over JPEG.

reallynotnick,

Yeah I know a lot of people will just turn chat off for that reason.

JPEG XL: How It Started, How It’s Going (cloudinary.com)

JPEG XL development began in 2018, when the JPEG committee launched a call for proposals on next-generation image compression, to which seven proposals were submitted. Of the seven two stood out: Google’s PIK and Cloudinary’s FUIF proposal. The ingredients from both proposals were eventually combined and refined to design a...

reallynotnick,

Hopefully this gets wide adoption, I’m ready for a next gen image format and this seems like a great choice (even if there is something ironic about calling a compression technology “XL”)

reallynotnick,

The HDR part is what kills me, if anything HDR seems to compress better than SDR. So it’s not even a bandwidth thing to provide 1080p HDR.

And the 4K upcharge was fine when I could share it with my siblings since it gave us 4 streams at once. Now I only would need 1 stream, so I can’t even get the full benefit of what I would pay for.

reallynotnick,

Feels too bulky and complicated for an e-bike or handheld lawn tools, riding lawn mower though… maybe?

If the AC to DC conversion is done inside the device then a kettle plug seems like enough to effectively max out a standard outlet. If it’s being done outside of the device I guess it depends on the wattage they can pull, USB-C could do 240W… idk if there is another standard that can carry ~1KW of DC power.

reallynotnick,

Shame no KVM built in for those of us with work and home computers. That seems often overlooked on many displays.

That aside seems like a solid alternative on paper.

reallynotnick,

Yeah love my Dell monitors, I’ve had 3 UltraSharps and currently have a UP3017 and it’s great.

I really want something that is ~200PPI and has an IPS Black panel as my next monitor and it needs to have a built in KVM and adjustable stand. (120hz would be nice too, but idk how possible that is at such a resolution). So I’ll just keep using this monitor until something finally comes along, it’s crazy how long it’s taken for “retina” monitors to become widespread.

reallynotnick,

Nights might make it easier? My problem was the stores were only open while I was working, I had basically a 1 hour window to get to the store before it closed at 6pm (thankfully just a week or so ago they are now open until 8pm).

It’s definitely a weird dilemma of if we all work the same hours, how does anyone with a job actually go to these places?

reallynotnick,

I mean it’s not worse than they were, but if you are buying a laptop just to play games it’s not really the platform for you.

I buy Macs to do work on, I think a lot of people continue to use them to do work on past college. Plenty of people also have consoles, so having a computer that can do both well isn’t even a priority for all gamers none the less the ton of people who don’t play AAA games.

reallynotnick,

Will they ever bring back target display mode? I can’t imagine having a 32" screen that can’t be used with anything but the built in computer. I feel like a ton of people have work computers like me who would want to use this as an external display.

reallynotnick,

Maybe I’m misunderstanding karma, but Memmy appears to show the total upvotes I’ve gotten for comments and posts, isn’t that basically karma?

reallynotnick,

I can click on you and see the same stats for you… though the numbers seems too low when I eyeball it compared to your comments, but I’m thinking maybe it’s just total points for a single lemmy server?

reallynotnick,

They are called “dollar bills” for a reason.

reallynotnick,

How are we counting “media companies”? Like what defines one?

reallynotnick,

The graph not starting at 0 makes this a bit deceiving at first glance.

reallynotnick,

It’s half way up a line at the start of the graph, and the end of the graph is at 8 lines tall, so by my math I’d say it looks like 16x vs roughly the actual ~4x improvement.

reallynotnick,

Yeah this is where taxing these negative externalities would help to curb the demand of wasteful products and thus lower waste produced by corporations.

We can’t expect corporations to just do the right thing out of the goodness of their hearts, because the products would cost more and the masses would just purchase the cheaper more waste producing products. We need to level the playing field by taxing pollution and waste.

reallynotnick,

I stupidly read this and thought the car dealer was calling out their lack of friends.

Have you replaced your iPhone battery, and was it worth it?

I’ve had an iPhone 12 mini since launch and the battery life has become pretty abysmal. However, I’m reluctant to replace it with a newer, bigger model. My battery health is sitting at 86%, which really doesn’t sound that bad, but I feel like the actual battery life is way worse than when I bought it. Has anyone replaced...

reallynotnick,

I’m wondering the same thing with 83% on my 12 mini, I’ve contemplated trying to get a 13 mini but I’m not sure if that’s really worth the extra cost. (I wish there was like a 15 mini coming out as I would just hold out, but that seems like a lost cause)

reallynotnick,

Too bad the rumors are pointed at a 6.1" device, I would love to replace my iPhone 12 mini with a newer mini than the 13.
