Linux sysadmin, Python developer, and one-trick Ekko. Chaotic good trickster archetype, one of those "fun" nihilists.

I'd like to automate the boring stuff for you.

I'm from the old Internet, and I'm here to help.

At rest, the average body consumes 20% to 25% of the body's energy. That equates to 350 to 450 calories for the average person. The energy comes mainly from glucose.

https://www.livescience.com/burn-calories-brain.html

brains create 42% more information at rest.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/01/140131130630.htm

This could equate to 497 to 639 calories just to power our resting brain, let alone when we're hyperfocused or overstimulated.

Gee, why do we all crave simple, quickly digested, glucose rich foods? Mystery.

And it's like... You got people who don't like fedi because they think they'll need an account for each topic/hobby

And then you got people who don't like fedi because it's not locked down to one topic per instance

And you can't make people happy

@jerry
I call this sort of behavior "You've started with a conclusion and then worked your way backwards from there"

I've found that people are big fans of government action against people with little or no due process, until it happens to them.

That really, really shouldn't matter. One of the biggest problems around the world today are people checking for labels and group membership before considering otherwise valid points.

For what it's worth, I've found this behavior exhibited by all groups.

I just noticed firefish (running on Infosec.town and fedia.social) shows the number of replies and likes for posts in the timeline - that’s pretty neat. (And yes, I’m aware the counts are probably incomplete for posts not originating from someone on the same instance)

I've seen glitch installs that do this but I can't figure out how to turn it on, and I can't find the patch.

@jerry In case of error state, do nothing until the error state clears.

Good to know I'm an analyst, and not really a journalist anymore. /s

"The threats made by these criminals are wide-ranging and quite inventive. For example, one hacker from Ukraine sent a gram of heroin through the mail to Brian Krebs, who's now a cybersecurity analyst but used to work as a journalist. Additionally, they sent Krebs a floral arrangement shaped like a cross through a local florist."

https://www.cybersecurityhq.io/blog/cyber-security-researchers-become-target-of-criminal-hackers

Personal, physical security is hard, inconvenient and expensive, and a guarantee of nothing (particularly if you have children). Everyone in security is susceptible to threats against their families. Still, I've found it's a subject that few in the industry want to acknowledge, let alone talk about.

Good news: I challenged Adguard’s block of Infosec.exchange and they just got back to me that they corrected the misclassification

Something similar happened to mstdn.social a while back, I saw someone on reddit who found their AV blocking the instance.

I'm wondering if a tool should be made to allow fedi admins to check their instance against various AV/spam lists and quickly issue appeals.

YOUR MASTODON SECURITY UPDATES (probably) AREN'T (quite) DONE YET

There were changes to the default nginx conf. This obviously doesn't get updated when Mastodon does.

Just add these lines to your nginx configs. Reload nginx. You're done.
