Which is hilarious because after the long and expensive process of producing them (likely during the strike so the writing and acting will suck), the companies get a delayed box office bomb on their hands when they try to hype up their Hot Wheels “it’s fast and furious for 9 year old boys” movie.

Most importantly, GOG as a storefront does not allow DRM. If you buy a game on GOG and keep the installer around (on a drive that’s regularly backed up), you’ll always have the ability to play that game even if GOG’s servers die.

My gf and I had the exact same use case, and decided on Galaxy A7 Lite tablets. They’re perfect for exactly what we want to use them for, which is reading ebooks through ReadEra and reading manga/comics through Tachiyomi. $120 at Amazon.

You get what you pay for - the browser and even some of the UI is a little crunchy, but watching YouTube Revanced or streaming from our Jellyfin server work just fine, and for reading it’s perfect.

You don’t need the steam store to play games on the steam deck, it’s a PC. they even have EmuDeck to make it seamless with your steam library.

You can still run all the emulators in developer mode. you just have to switch back to the walled-garden mode if you want to play actual xbox games.

There are some programs where this isn’t true thanks to Apple’s M1 chip design not being compatible natively with x64/x86 applications. But most emulator projects support the M1.

On Intel Macs this is always true.

I’m reading the plural as saying that legendary relics will be part of the game the same way Prismatic Champion Amulets are. One item you can unlock as a player, but there are a lot of players that are each going to have one legendary relic. Hence, there are going to be “legendary relics” in the game.

In-app purchases, mtx, DLC, and premium currency are also subject to Valve tax for games that are on Steam. Free to play means “enough people pay $200+ that we can get away with not selling it for $50”, putting it on Steam still means Valve gets a piece of the pie.

So let them distribute their launchers and storefronts, Valve couldn’t stop it. But it’s not monopolistic for Steam to say “if you want us to approve your product for our store, you can’t have the game launch into a pop-up for someone else’s store”.

Gog? Itch? Plenty of developers choose to sell their games in DRM-free formats. Plenty of games don’t even cost money.

There’s no good mobile exclusive game, in my experience. There are plenty of great games that are 1:1 ports of their PC or console versions, with buy-once pricing and no microtransactions.

The ones I have installed on Android are: Baba is You, Slay the Spire, Peglin, Downwell, Super Hexagon, SNKRX, and 20 Minutes Til Dawn.

For now. This is step one of enshittification. Step 2 is enabling it for new accounts by default. Step 3 is removing the ability for new accounts to turn it off. Step 4 is defaulting it on for legacy users, and step 5 makes it mandatory for everyone that isn’t paying for something.

TwoXChromosomes was kind of a victim of the fact that it was never in the history of Reddit made possible to change a subreddit's name without just starting over and losing all of the history (incl. top/all time sorting). When the subreddit was designed as a space for women and girls on Reddit thirteen years ago, they picked the name because of 2010 Reddit's very "science rules!" culture and wanted to evoke not just "women and girls" but "geeky women and girls that use the geek site for nerds, Reddit". They were trans-inclusionary over a decade ago, despite the name. Their current pinned post says specifically "Trans women are women. TERFs can fuck right off" in giant bold text.

I get being made uncomfortable by the name, but 2XC was trans-friendly before a lot of other more mainstream feminist spaces were.
