naonintendois,

Salaries are a tiny fraction of the military budget. Majority goes to overpriced military contractors. I think the bigger issue is the Pentagon has failed 6 audits in a row.

naonintendois,

Yes, though this is true of a lot of the easier distros.

naonintendois,

I would get comfortable with the idea of breaking things. Make regular backups of your data. The best that I’m aware of for making it easy to work backwards from breaking things is NixOS, but I wouldn’t consider it beginner friendly.

You learn a lot from trying to bring a system back online. But it depends if you’re trying Linux to learn it more or just to take advance of privacy.

naonintendois,

It shouldn’t break if you just install packages from the main app installer. It’s more of a concern if you’re trying to install anything from source.

Also make sure to try a live cd or live USB to make sure the OS is compatible with your hardware. VM is not sufficient for this last one. This is usually only an issue if you have very new hardware.

naonintendois,

What IT guys did you go to?

naonintendois,

I was newish to Linux and had just run rm -rf ./.* to remove all the hidden files/dirs in a directory. I then wanted to run rm -rf ./* to clear the rest, but I accidentally ran rm -rf . /*. By the time I noticed it was taking too long and hit Ctrl+C, it was too late.

naonintendois,

Something just seems off with this. Major uncanny valley and the animations don’t look great.

naonintendois,

I worked at Best Buy a long time ago. Insignia products are in house brands that are REALLY cheap and crappy quality. Dynex is also another one. We used to joke that if they made a whole PC out of Dynex parts it would probably catch fire. Even the dynex CDs would randomly crack

naonintendois,

That would be awesome. I don’t use Godot regularly but I do play around with it from time to time.

naonintendois,

You just described the phrase “ignorance is bliss”, which has been around for a very, very long time.

naonintendois,

That’s hilarious! I’m curious how this breaks your story if you keep playing.

naonintendois,

Doesn’t work on boost either

naonintendois,

Had a team of 10 working nights and weekends for a month because someone in sales sold a contract for an integration with a 3rd party that didn’t exist yet. In the years I was there after that project shipped, only 1 person even looked at the feature, one time. It never actually got used

What languages are well suited for testing SDKs written in multiple other languages?

I am working on an application that has SDKs in multiple languages. Currently Java, JavaScript, Dart, and Go, but ultimately we’d like to have an SDK for every major language. Our primary test suites are written in Go, which means our other SDKs are not well tested. I do not want to write or maintain test suites in four or ten...

naonintendois,

The .NET languages support c interop. The documentation could use some love though.

naonintendois,

How complex are the API calls you need to make? Debugging interop mismatch can end up being more work than writing the tests if you need to deal with complex types.

naonintendois,

Cleaning dog paws. You fill it with water and move it up and down the paw. The little arms clean off the dirt.

naonintendois,

That was pretty much me a few days ago. I ate food that was a little hot, and I could feel it going through my insides for a little while, and it was painful. My fever was close to 103.

naonintendois,

Says the judge revoked ALL of his business certificates in New York. Trial will continue to assess damages he must pay.

naonintendois,

I’m not sure what restrictions will be when he obviously tries to appeal. Can’t go to his sons though since they’re also affected by the order.

naonintendois,

My guess would be it buzzes Morse code on what moves to play.

naonintendois,

You’re missing the more obvious possibility. Someone else is recording the game, inputting the moves, and sending the commands to vibrate. Player only needs to interpret.

naonintendois,

It’s WAY better than batch (not to be confused with bash) scripting. It’s got some really nice features though and lacks a lot of the small paper cuts inherited from legacy shells. Look at nushell for something similar on Linux.

naonintendois,

The link is stuck in a captcha loop for me

Bought a Ryzen CPU from Amazon, got an empty box (imgur.com)

I wanted to put a warning out there for others like myself planning to build a new PC. I started using pcpartpicker and after enough price comparisons, I ended up buying a CPU from Amazon. Keeping an eye on the tracking updates, I pulled it inside as soon as it arrived so it wouldn’t be stolen off my porch....

naonintendois,

But this doesn’t even look like a CPU box.

naonintendois,

In Florida houses are also built from cinder blocks because wood is too weak against hurricanes.

Edit: interiors can be built from wood, but all exterior walls are made with cinder blocks.

naonintendois,

What part of Florida? I know there’s different wind speed ratings depending on how far north you’re building. In South Florida I only ever saw cinder block or full concrete exteriors.

naonintendois,

I’m actually living in California now. Very different structures to the buildings. Houses are much smaller overall too. But the landscape is so much nicer to look at and explore. I never realized how boring and flat Florida was until I left.
