mestari, to mensliberation in [DISCUSSION] Weekly Discussion Wednesday - Do you feel pressured to be a useful man?

It’s hard to even imagine to exist and not feel the need of being useful.

mestari, to til in TIL the US is the only rich country offering no national paid parental leave

Sad to be honest. People are actively demanding the dismantle of welfare state here in the Nordics too. Arbeit macht frei and so on.

On top of that Americans pay more healthcare related income taxes than anyone else! Those could well be used to cover the expenses of a socialized system. It’s absolutely amazing that people think they don’t need it.

This one’s nut even that bad. Gas ovens are proven to cause asthma. Someone believing those are actual lungs wouldn’t be that bad.

mestari, to linux in I want to switch to Linux but there are a few major hurdles.

Stick to Windows. Linux is fine for IT pros and as a hobby. For graphic design with Adobe I just don’t see your productivity would be the same.

Track 3 by Various Artists went hard 😤🤟

mestari, to asklemmy in What social taboos that exist today do you think will not be around in 100 years?

What makes you think that a global crisis would reduce humanity to tribes and clans? Isn’t it more likely that desperate times result in something more like a global government and more systematic enslavement of humans? How could the owning class ever pass on the opportunity of not having to work and instead utilize their workers as efficiently as possible?

I just can’t believe you could wear a flowy floral print summer dress and be considered a dependable guy by everyone. Some cultures put such an high effort to preserve their old ways that I can’t see that going away in 100 years, or even 300 years. The rest of us unfortunately have to play by their rules and taboos.

mestari, to linux in [Rant] I swear to fucking god. Windows is harder to use than Linux. Have any of you ever USED Windows lately? Holy fuck.

Someone pointed out that Pro version still doesn’t require sign in. I’ve only dealt with Pro and didn’t know it’s different than Home in this thing. Sorry for being overly confident.

mestari, to linux in [Rant] I swear to fucking god. Windows is harder to use than Linux. Have any of you ever USED Windows lately? Holy fuck.

Ah I’m sorry I’ve installed Win11 on several computers but they’ve all been Pro version. I didn’t know that Home is different.

You fail to acknowledge that only a tiny fraction of PC users do anything resembling coding. The average user never ever needs a markdown editor or a C compiler.

Oh I never realised Apple OS naming moved past OSX. They don’t seem to use version numbers a lot in their marketing anyway.

Yep, if you can daily any linux distro but struggle to install Windows it’s an attitude issue. Windows 11 is arguably the most user friendly OS ever made.

Windows 11 doesn’t force you do any of that. Just skip the sign in. Your points were valid in 8/10 era but no more.

mestari, to piracy in What does real-debrid do?

Storage isn’t nearly as expensive as it would seem looking at normal consumer cloud storage pricing. I think they also clear the cache of truly obscure content after a while. And I also think some of the “cached” content isn’t even stored on their own servers, but is actually streamed from one of the 3rd party direct download services. That would ease the storage and traffic load massively.
