li10, to random in Linux Mint is still going strong after being my daily driver for 4 months, and I don't think i will be going back anytime soon.

I’m gonna get shit for it, but gaming on Linux really isn’t great imo.

My experience is that it’s a pain in the arse to get anything running, performance is worse, vsync is fucked, no HDR, doesn’t work with Hue Sync, and then a hundred other miscellaneous problems.

Proton is an incredible achievement from a technical standpoint, and if people are happy to put up with issues to protect their privacy then good on them, but I think people oversell how good the actual Linux gaming experience is.

P.S. I don’t need suggestions on how to fix the issues I listed. I’m more than able to resolve them if I had the time, I just don’t want to have those problems to start with.

li10, to memes in Giga Sandler

I always just knew him as that guy from shitty movies, but seeing him and others from that “crew” on Norm MacDonald’s shows made me realize they’re incredibly funny, and just DGAF about the films.

li10, to fuck_cars in Starter Pack - bikes are too entitled

Government: “Everyone should take up cycling to stay healthy and reduce emissions”

Also government: “You will cycle in the gutter. We will not implement any cycle lanes with divides to protect you; instead, you’ll get some road markings that drivers ignore and occasionally disappear, usually at the section of road that’s most dangerous”

I’ve taken up cycling as a hobby recently, but there’s no way in hell I’m risking my life on a commute when drivers are so reckless, and the government doesn’t take action to protect cyclists.

Last week I binned two of the three tubs of expiring butter I had in the fridge, so that was a massive W for me.

li10, to adhd in Oof…

It’s quite difficult, I was told a lot that I just need to get on with stuff and the response was “it’s not a problem” to any issues.

I once had a bad infection on my leg and just ignored it until people at work said I needed to speak to someone. Eventually I ended up at the hospital, the doctor was quite surprised at how bad I’d let it get, and was even more shocked when I said I was going back to work after 😂

She basically said that there’s no way I should be going back to work, and said I needed to take a few days off and take antibiotics. My mum said it wasn’t that bad…

I also registered with a dentist for the first time in 10 years recently, and had a load of fillings done. My mum kept telling me I didn’t need them unless my teeth hurt (they did, but she ignored me saying that), and that the dentist was just trying to rip me off, despite them showing me pictures of the decay on some teeth.

All I can really say is that it’s best to book appointments for any issues, and then gauge whether it’s something that you should have just been putting up with based on the doctor/professional’s advice. Then eventually you’ll get some kind of rational basis for what needs to be sorted and what you should be putting up with.

I can relate to that, they’re suddenly experts on a condition that they don’t understand and the medication to treat it.

“Parents take you to a psychologist”

Can’t relate to that bit, my mother refused to even take me to the opticians because she insisted there was nothing wrong with me.

These days she thinks I’m making the ADHD stuff up, and occasionally asks me why I don’t just take off my glasses for a while…

li10, to piracy in Question about qBittorrent

Chances of actually getting picked up on pirating are absolutely tiny, they only really care about capturing uploaders.

In 15 years of pirating without a VPN in the UK I’ve only ever received a single letter, which was just a half arsed scare tactic.

The constant reminders about the absolute need for a VPN to avoid getting caught is just VPN provider propaganda imo. It’s ideal to have it, but in reality you’ll be fine.

li10, to asklemmy in How is Lemmy supposed to replace Reddit?

To be honest, I think a main server isn’t just required to build a decent user base, I think it’s inevitable no matter what.

That being said, the benefit I see from Lemmy is that if people are unhappy with the main server, it’s an easy switch to something else. And not completely migrating to an entirely different platform.

li10, to asklemmy in How is Lemmy supposed to replace Reddit?

I think communities “fusing” like you mentioned would be a good idea, but I still think one server needs to stand out from the rest as a place for people to join.

Most people in this thread seem to be content with Lemmy not being Reddit though, and I just don’t think they realise how quiet it’s going to be if new users trying to leave Reddit aren’t snapped up ASAP.

Personally, if I go to a community and there are 5 posts a day with only a few comments, then that seems utterly pointless and I won’t be coming back. I imagine some people will give me shit for that and say that I should be the change I want to see, while also being the exact same and likely giving up on Lemmy after a few weeks.

li10, to asklemmy in How is Lemmy supposed to replace Reddit?

That makes sense, it just seems that a lot of people are expecting Lemmy to replace Reddit, when it isn’t up to that task and isn’t what it’s designed for.

If people want it to be close to Reddit, then I think a ‘flagship’ server is the only option, but it seems like even that is fitting a square peg into a round hole, and isn’t something that anyone is taking responsibility for.
