kessleragain,

I’m really looking forward to Hard to Kill and this next year for TNA. I’ve found them to be the most consistent promotion I watch. Wonder who the signing could be?

kessleragain,

Insert joke about Bret needing all his energy to hate Goldberg here.

I’m kind of curious about Earl’s book. Getting the pov of a ref sounds interesting.

kessleragain,

Makes sense. But man, I put on an MLW video a few weeks ago and it just assaulted all my senses. It was so much.

kessleragain,

Oh god, I forgot how long that went.

kessleragain,

Ah, that would be some nice wordplay there. Okada leaving NJPW would be wild. Who is this person tweeting it? Don’t think I’ve come across them before.

kessleragain,

Ah cool, thanks for that info!

kessleragain,

Ummm. Alright. It does sound like women are featured more on ROH, so it’s nice to have a secondary belt there—other than the normal “too many belts” thing.

I now choose to believe that Tony is deeply afraid of women’s tag belts though.

kessleragain,

Hope she gets well soon. Thanks for the content warning, saved me from potentially looking at it.

kessleragain,

QT for Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling world champ?

kessleragain,

I’m pretty meh about Eddie in general. However, I did like parts of the Honor No More storyline and his feud with Kaz this year. I think he needs Alisha involved for me to really enjoy his stories.

kessleragain,

How often does Giulia include English? And why does she always look so cool?

I gasped when Suzu called Maika a loser and I don’t even know their history. lol

kessleragain,

Ooo! So this all works quite well in kayfabe and out. Fun! Unless it leads to a riot.

kessleragain,

Whoa, like full retirement? That would seem sudden with Sukeban just starting.

kessleragain,

lol true!

kessleragain,

It’ll be cool to see him more often.

kessleragain,

Oh no, what terrible news. I recently wondered where she was since I wasn’t hearing about any cameos and that seemed to be the way to keep buzz while she was in the PC training. I can see how HHH’s comment with no extra context might sound like a dig.

Cancer is horrible. And so close to the holidays.

kessleragain,

What a year it’s been! I think we’ve had a little bit of everything, good and bad. And the drama llamas had much to feed on.

Last year was easier to pick a favorite match. I’m not always into tag team wrestling, but it had to be one of the Briscoes v FTR matches. This year is a little harder. Wasn’t Tanahashi v Speedball earlier this year at Multiverse United? I heard of Speedball before he showed up in Impact, but hadn’t seen him. I quickly grew to like him. I’d also heard of Tanahashi but had only seen him the time or two he’d shown up in AEW. That match was the first time I got Tanahashi. The way he came out and made sure that everyone in the crowd got to see him during his entrance. It felt so special. I thought, oh right, he’s a star that wants to make sure everyone has the full experience. I understood why I’ve always seen the comparisons to John Cena and why people say it’s a dream match. The effort Speedball put in to beat this respected wrestler! Wanting to beat him without turning to dirty tricks. A lot of my favorite matches tend to be ones where I know at the beginning who will win, but I get so invested that I’m able to turn my brain off and believe that the underdog might pull it off. It’s probably the closest to feeling like a kid watching wrestling again. This match had me going back and forth on who would win.

Anyone who has noticed me in the Impact threads won’t be surprised that I have to mention MK Ultra. Masha Slamovich first caught my eye during the NWA Empowerrr ppv, so I was happy when she showed up in Impact. Killer Kelly was awesome the moment she turned up and started a feud with Tasha Steelz. I was actually beginning to worry about Masha. Impact had built her up strong for awhile, but then she kept losing Knockouts World Title matches. Nothing wrong with that on the surface, but she needed something new. The feud between her and Kelly and then becoming a tag team was a real highlight for me. Long may they reign.

AEW: Boy, it’s been a year of super highs and super lows. Injuries, backstage drama, big debuts, All In. There are bright spots with the women’s division: Timeless Toni Storm, more Shida reigns, Kris Statlander returning, Julia Hart, Riho with her pipe for a little while. But overall, the women’s division still desperately needs more help and care. They need more separation between AEW and ROH. Yes, I’m always happy when Dalton Castle shows up on AEW TV, but the men’s ROH titles should have only been on AEW as often as Athena as ROH women’s champ was. I cut the cord on cable years ago and subscribed to Hulu Live when Dynamite began so that I could watch it. In June, I realized I wasn’t enjoying watching weekly like I used to. With injuries and the build for Forbidden Door 2 starting at the beginning of that month, I gave them until after All In/All Out to see if they felt back on track with what I liked. I got rid of Hulu Live after All Out. I’ve kept up in other ways and bought the PPVs, but this upcoming PPV might be the first that I don’t buy.

Other thoughts: I got to see my first TJPW ppv back in March when they were in LA! It was super fun to be able to put a face to some of the names I’d seen. I also got my wife to check out a few old Japanese matches (Manami Toyota v Bull Nakano and Bull Nakano v Aja Kong) and she loved them so much that she wants to check out more Japanese wrestling.

And lastly, I’d like to mention what this place has become. It’s nice having a chill place to talk about wrestling. I love getting to hear about Stardom. Hopefully, if anyone watches other promotions (I think AEW and Impact are the most watched here), they feel free to let us know what cool things are happening, just like those Stardom threads. And sorry for the extremely long post.

kessleragain,

I think a lot of fans gave AEW grace during the first few years with the women’s division. It looked like the joshi would be the workhorses as the other women developed, but then the pandemic happened. Women like Serena Deeb and Thunder Rosa (I hadn’t really heard of her, but when she showed up as NWA women’s champ, she felt like a big deal) coming in felt like things might change there.

Shelley’s title run has been so unexpectedly nice. I had assumed that he’d have a short reign. One of the bonuses of Impact being the often forgotten third company in the US is that we don’t hear as much about how long contracts are for. I was shocked when Nick Aldis didn’t beat Shelley for the title. If I’d known beforehand that he was only coming in for a few months, I wouldn’t have been.

I know some fans don’t like the silliness that Impact serves us from time to time, but I love it. I still miss Wrestle House. And totally agree about Dreamer. Let it be for young talent breaking out, charismatic wrestlers like Hendry, and the occasional Jordynne Grace-like reign with a couple intergender matches.

kessleragain,

I don’t know how feasible it’d be to set up, but I want MK Ultra vs that tag team with Max the Impaler and Heidi Howitzer. Kelly would get tossed around to death. And the “we survived, time to celebrate in the back” vibes would be off the charts. lol

kessleragain,

Are you the one who posted your experience going to a house show? That was awesome!

I definitely had some moments of going, “oh, here’s Skye again” this year.

kessleragain,

That’s a really good point about Yuka. I was also scratching my head when Skye got that title shot.

Curse you for putting Nyla/Willow in my brain. I want it now.

kessleragain,

Aw, that’s a great video. I’m happy for her. It really is too bad that she was one of the big injuries in Stardom this year.

kessleragain,

My brain tends to land on nothingburger when it comes to trademark stuff until proven otherwise.

I wouldn’t hate if it was the first hint that he’s returning soon though.

kessleragain,

Yeeeep. I was surprised Steve didn’t take the belt off him.

kessleragain,

Hell yeah, Trent Seven!

kessleragain,

Sounds like I missed something spicy when I went to heat up some food lol

kessleragain,

Yeah, seems like an odd choice of location. TK is stretching himself ridiculously thin.

kessleragain,

That’s scary. I’m excited for her return. I’ve missed her.

kessleragain,

Makes sense. Kind of like how people think of the x or knockouts divisions for TNA. Also, of course he’d bring up Hangman v Swerve to make his point. Lol.

kessleragain,

I was gonna laugh and say, “joke’s on you! My weekend is around the corner on Thursday.” But Wednesday is my long day so I’m getting kicked in the head too.

kessleragain,

Sounds like good changes!

Also, I love anytime I come across a translation that says players.

kessleragain,

Yeah, it seems hard to find that sweet spot between enough matches to “git gud” and so many that injuries are happening everywhere.

kessleragain,

Well, I agree that Hobbs with QTV wasn’t a great choice for Hobbs. But I always thought QTV had a place on the card. They were so annoying. It reminded me of watching some of the midcard acts as a kid. If they’d picked someone more appropriate, it could have been fun.

It’s kind of funny, this kind of sounds like Tony was trying to own a decision since he’s the boss. A common complaint has been that he should do that more. But I can see with QT’s position, honesty would have worked more.

I do wonder what we’ll hear once QT is gone. He seems respected by a lot in the locker room.

WOR: Details on QT Marshall's departure from AEW (kbin.social)

I have heard from many, many people, some of whom did not know that this was happening, and most of whom did, so it was not a secret. Some have known for weeks, some have known for months. People have talked to him. He’s expressed his frustrations. There have been things that have happened. QT had a very well-paying job, he...

kessleragain,

Well, good luck to him. He was entertaining in his matches. Maybe he can spend more time in AAA. I think I heard he did well there recently.

kessleragain,

I wasn’t watching back when Punk was in WWE the first time. I heard about him when I got back into it. A friend who was a huge fan got me to watch the pipe bomb. I understood he was a big deal to a lot of people. He wasn’t really what I expected once he returned to wrestling. It’s been an odd experience.

kessleragain,

I remember thinking during that segment that it felt like a Cody and Arn Anderson kind of segment.

Aw, now I miss Arn and his Glock.

kessleragain,

Wow, didn’t expect that. Wasn’t it announced a few months ago that he had re-signed? The bit about AEW having changed is interesting, but also pretty obvious. I enjoyed him while he was on screen. He made it easy to boo him. Hope he has fun with whatever comes next.

kessleragain,

Ahhh. That would make the timing of this make all the sense in the world.

kessleragain,

I caught a little bit of the last one on Twitch, I hope I remember to tune in because what I saw was fun.

kessleragain,

This makes more sense than my thought that everyone suddenly decided not to post after Full Gear! Lol

kessleragain,

The part that really surprised me was the random PPVs. What a dumb decision!

Call me crazy but I think MJF faked his leg injury. (kbin.social)

I know he's our scumbag and all but I wouldn't put it past him to pretend his leg was hurt just so he could catch Switchblade by surprise. The more I think about it, the more I think Max and Adam had this whole thing planned so that Jay would take his match preparations less seriously and divide his time trying to strategize for...

kessleragain,

And if they concocted it together, and Britt didn’t know so she was pointing out how ridiculous it was people in the back were allowing Adam out there for the main event…

Well, no wonder she sometimes sounds jealous or uneasy about Adam and Max.

kessleragain,

Looks good! I was looking for the no baiting bit, but I think most reasonable people would lump that into the first rule with being civil and all.

Thanks for all you’re doing!

kessleragain,

One day!

kessleragain,

As we finish up, thanks again for a fun time tonight, everyone! And a hopefully humorous anecdote: My wife got home and sat in the living room. I realized I’d left Youtube on the TV after Zero Hour and noticed she hadn’t touched the TV. It was now playing oooold TNA on silent. I said, “Hey, you can change the TV. I’m in another room watching this ppv.” She said, “Weirdly, the sound from the ppv is working for what’s on the TV.”

kessleragain,

We can’t escape! Hahaha
