Autistic people have a reputation for fearing change, yet non-autistic people typically fear any changes we suggest, even when those changes would actually help them. I think autists’ fear is simply expressed more, as we have extra variables to consider and change is rarely in our favour.

@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic There are contexts where non-autistics feel free to express their reluctance to change. For example, when technology they rely on changes, they’re don’t hesitate to complain to the companies that make the tech.

But of course, they’re not comfortable with the tech in the first place. Whereas we’re not comfortable with the world.

During the pandemic, I moved to this chill spot far from the city hustle. Now they're talking about going back to in-person work. Honestly? I'd choose my mental and physical health over that any day. If they don't let me keep working remotely (I'm gonna try with some doctor notes), then I'm out. My well-being is way more important than any job. I don't think I have too many problems finding new challenges. @actuallyautistic

@lobocode @actuallyautistic In my line of work, when they brought me back in person, I didn’t really have a choice, but I wish I had. I support your decision!

I’m and a black-and-white thinker. I have two modes: working as hard as possible, and not working. Working medium-hard isn’t something that comes naturally to me…At least not until I’m burned out, at which point my effective 100% is 40% of my old max, and what allistic people might consider a normal amount of effort.

I voted “Barely holding on” because I’m in autistic burnout and my job is really hard on me.

BUT

I have a home, enough money to stay afloat, an income, and a family. Yeah, life is hard, but not I think in the way you meant.

Trying to figure out how to pivot and make a career change, even with all the logical advice I've been given, is only reminding me how burnt out and risk adverse I am.

I just can't bring myself to start over again, especially with the amount of financial anxiety I have.

Because all I've learned leads to "You have to start over" and I'm too scared to change.
