Firefox nightly on android supported desktop extensions for quite some time. It wasn’t that easy to install them, but once I did they worked fine. Maybe a bit more slugish than on pc, but that’s expected given the resources limitations on mobile.
Except that you can keep upgrading windows or just install linux and be up to date with the security patches for like 10+ years, your phone runs out of support in like 5-6 years in the best case and then good luck using these banking apps securely.
I agree, subscriptions are stupid. But for now I am still using my windows 7 key on windows 11 so they were more than reasonable up until now.
I could see them adding windows as part of Microsoft 365 package they sell to businesses. Companies always had a different policy when it comes to software, that’s where most of the software companies make most of their money. It’s why piracy was allowed for so long, consumers get used to the software through the pirated version, then they demand it at work which can’t use pirated software obviously.
Sure, but in that case you pay for the OS through the overly inflated price of the device that brings mediocre warranty and pathetic options for repair. It’s a tradeoff.
There are many devices that use 2g for data, not just energy meters. ATMs, card payment terminals, alarms, gps trackers, all sorts of qpplications that don’t need a lot of data and can benefit from the better coverage/range of 2g.
A few days ago I sent a GDPR request to some company to delete my personal data. They said to install their app and send a ticket from the app. The email was sent from the email address to which the account is registered. Is this even legal?
I am using ProtonVPN, and have (or so I thought) set up qBittorrent to bind to the network interface that ProtonVPN is using (tun0). The connection symbol turns red if I turn off the VPN, and downloads will stop. However, when checking the torrent address on ipleak.net, it seems that this bind is not working properly - my real...
Not American myself, but I can think of a few factors besides meat:
less stress
less polution
less processed food, be it meat or not
less sugar
less sedentary lifestyle
genes
Nutrition alone won’t get you to 100. Having a diverse diet keeps ypu healty, but there are many factors that impact health. I do agree that meat is overused in general population, but can’t really force the vegan/vegetarian lifestyle onto an omnivore specie.
I got a thermostatic shower mixer from ikea and it’s awsome. Just set your preffered temp and it will make sure it stays that way. It wasn’t even that expensive. I wish more people knew about it.
Europe is not one homogenous continent. Here in Europe where I am they are not common, and I’ve been to at least 2 other countries here in Euorpe where these mixers were not common.
I found cheaper options too, but decided to go with ikea because they offer replacement ceramic cartrige which is apparently the only thing that can break on these mixers.
Still using my s10e, but it’s starting to show its age. Battery is dying and no more security updates. I was looking at zenfone 10 as a replacement, but the lack of usb c video output and the high price are not very appealing.
Here in Romania that is unheard of. The courier will personally hand it to the recipient. If you are not home, you have the option to redirect it to a different address, courier HQ or some local stores that they have contract with. And even so, they ask for a verification code you get via sms in the morning. It’s very unlikely to lose a package.
Nothing tedious really. If you work from home you just go out for 2 mins to tell the courier the code and get your package. If you are in the office, you redirect the package to a store on your way home, tell them the code and get your package. Either way, it takes 5 min tops to make sure the recipient is the only person that can pick up the package.
Up until a few months ago amazon didn’t have free delivery here, it was about 6-11€ for shipping, so the deals had to be really good to make it worth it. But since then, they added free delivery for orders over 49€, so I expect ppl to start using amazon more often.
The way couriers deliver the packages is the same for both amazon and the local online stores tho.
You can get thin clients for much less than that… Better performance if needed, similar power efficiency for similar loads, they sometimes bring storage, power supply and ram and you don’t generate more e-waste as these are already being thrown out by many big companies every few years.
The only reason to go for the PI is if you really need the GPIO, the tiny form-factor and even then there are cheaper alternatives with similar or better spevs.
Not sure where you’re from. But here is a random one from ebay . You will find many like it. I got this model with 4gb ram, 256 ssd and power supply for ~80€ on europe, much less then I could pay for any PI4 at the time that came with no case, no psu, no ssd. It idles around 3-4w headless with no peripherals running home assistant. There are other models too ofc. Just have a look around used hardware stores if you have them around your area.
When I was looking for a pi4 I stumbled upon orange pi, rock pi, banana pi and libre computer. They have models both cheaper and more expensive than the rpi. All depends on the specs you need.
You can hate all you want, but I tested my xbox controller connected to the PC via cable, bluetooth and the xbox dongle. The dongle was very much on par with the cable, probably because they use a custom 5GHz protocol, but bluetooth had noticeable latency. It’s not horrible, but clearly worse than the othet 2 options.
I was wondering, with all the different Lemmy clients and frontends, what/which out of these do people actually use? To answer this, I made a poll if anyone wants to fill it out, and I tried to put every client I could find.
You should give eternity a try. It is using the infinity UI which worked pretty well on my tablet. You have to add a custom repository to f-droid or use obtainium to install it
