This is the primary reason why I’m ok for my instance to not grow massively. We got 10K people and we have pretty good traffic ,without overloading us or making too much of a target. We still get new users since we allow registrations, but the application requirements retain the quality

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’m OK with the full repost. It’s not like I’m running adverts 😁

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Ye that’s annoying. I’ll see if there’s any sort of fix

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There’s was/is an absolute exodus of power users. It’s now a matter of time until the rest move. Not if. When.

My thoughts in detail: dbzer0.com/blog/reddit-is-a-dead-site-running/

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Argh, why make 2 communities? >_< Pick one damnit :D

I’m going to the blahaj one

Anyway well done for recognizing the ship is rapidly disintegrating.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It’s not going to be twice the content though. It’s either going to be split between the two, or, most likely, just seeing double-posts as one is crossposted to the other

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Nobody said anything about choice. But you can use your kbin account to read lemmy communities through kbin, and you can use lemmy account to read kbin communities through lemmy. There’s just no reason to have 2 communities.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

fediseer.com I built it precisely for this reason

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You don’t need to pirate OpenAI. I’ve built the AI Horde so y’all can use it without any workarounds of shenanigans and you can use your PCs to help others as well.

Here’s a client for LLM you can run directly on your browser: lite.koboldai.net

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Unfortunately I’m not an expert in LLMs so I don’t know. I suggest you contact the KoboldAI community and they should be able to point you to the right direction

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Which client? Koboldai lite?

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The embedded browser version is just a demo. Just download and run the local executable and it should work normally.

Tumblr says it’s going to “fix” its “core experience” to appeal to new users (www.theverge.com)

Tumblr plans to make changes to appeal to new users and improve growth. The post states that Tumblr is currently difficult for new users to use and curates content poorly. Tumblr aims to improve how users discover and sign up, encourage frequent engagement, and boost creators’ ability to attract audiences. Specific changes...

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Unfortunately, this is what always happens when you entrust your content to a corpo. Is there no fediverse alternative to Tumblr?

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

all these features and lack of featurs you can get with fedi software. The need for your friends to move so you can move is understandable, but eventually Tumblr will become so painful to use, the decision will be made for you.

and the fact that they convert every bleeding image into a webp ↩︎

TBF, that’s actually good. .jpg and .png are ancient and .webp is way way better. The fault is not .webp, it’s browsers and clients which stubbornly refuse to support it.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

i personally have had no compatibility issues with webp, i would rather my image formats are not owned by google, really. i would much rather use jpegxl, but chrome doesn’t support it because it competes with webp and we couldn’t have that, could we.

I mean, why do you even use chrome if google is your problem? :D

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I had no idea that Chrome dropped support. Classic corpo shit phoronix.com/…/Chrome-Dropping-JPEG-XL-Reasons

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I think so too. As others have mentioned, Calkey is already most of the way there

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

What is the void sub and why don’t you just start one here?

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

be the change you want to see in the world :D

I understand it’s difficult, but I expect eventually they’ll read the writing on the wall.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There’s a link to the full thing. It should have more context

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Any instance server admin can just silently drop all packages from specific domains if they wanted

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Hah good point. I need to remove that :D

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

MySpace and digg still exist as well. Social media sites don’t die in the typical sense of the word, but they “die” nonetheless. More like abandoned malls than 6 feet under

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The only tip is, be an active poster. If you start a community, you have to be the one regularly posting content until you get above like 1000 subs and others start posting consistently. If you can’t dedicate yourself to that, it won’t go anywhere

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’d argue !piracy has made the most successful transition

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Funnily enough, beehaw was the most protected from this vuln, as their more stringest application requirements made it unlikely the attacker got in. It also didn’t affect lemmy.dbzer0.com even though our application form is much simpler than theirs.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

If you want to host a text model thats is reachable by you or anyone securely over the internet, I suggest you turn your pc into a worker for the ai horde. You would then be able to access the model you’re serving from everywhere but also everyone else’s llm and stable diffusion models with priority. You would also be improving the commons

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Not entirely, but almost exclusively :D

However you can make the worker SFW if you prefer

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

plenty of instances including mine and some massive ones like lemmy.world are fully funded by donations.There’s absolutely no need for ads

So... are Lemmy users also generally crypto supporters?

Just got very lightly flamed by another user for making fun of crypto and was told that Lemmy and crypto have “the exact same advantages and disadvantages”. Now I disagree heavily there, since even if it shares some principles I’d argue that the scale of the problems change when you’re talking about a global finance...

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Absolutely not. Hell my whole instance is vehemently anti crypto

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Because all the cool kids came here ;)

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Fuck doing this any easier to reddit. I’m of the mind to just remove all mods, set the community to restricted and if reddit wants to re-open it, they can find new mods themselves.

Unfortunately a few of the existing mods want to continue with reddit only and I’m not top mod anymore, so…

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Is this fucking loss?

What FOSS reverse-proxy to use in a redundant configuration?

Hi, I was looking at different reverse proxies (Traefik, Caddy, NGINX, Apache (mod_proxy), HAProxy) - I wanted to run two instances of a reverse proxy on different devices for failover. I do not find much about running reverse-proxies in a failover configuration, could someone point me at a resource related to these proxies so I...

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Haproxy +keepalived can do it well, but you need a floating ip

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Did you encounter any issues during the upgrade or did the docker compose handle everything smoothly?

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Unfortunately I don't have a frontend. I'm not a frontend guy. I hope someone will make one :)

OK mateys, let's talk about direct links. (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

The original /r/piracy was purposefully gimped because Reddit received DMCAs for any random thing and didn't even bother to follow up. Since we're in new waters, I want things to be a bit more relaxed, but there's a limit on how relaxed we can be, without starting to get lawsuits, which I will not be able to fight off. I also...

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yes but it might be only a batter of time until they catch up. Keep to the main rule about no direct links even under b64. I am too poor for lawyers yo

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I was the top mod in /r/piracy, so ye

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Myself I moved here only and don’t plan to keep /r/piracy alive. However some other mods are dedicated to being unpaid jannitors for spez, so :shrug:

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

As funny as this is, please don’t use this. It took a long time to get people to be vigilant about shady links, and this being in use anywhere will cause them to start unlearning it.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar
