I don't understand hashtags, it seems so obvious, some words you write on the internet use hashtags and others don't and what could be more obvious than to know which words you use are also some kind of advertising you do for your things you post, seems so obvious but beyond my lil dum dum head

#ActuallyAutistic community!

How do I make friends as an adult? I'm new to my area and don't have any local friends or community. Have been struggling with loneliness a lot lately.

@magicalgrrrl @actuallyautistic one classic hack I learned, after having to cut off the majority of the people I had before coming out as autistic and NB, is volunteering. Find some necessary, unglamorous work that needs doing and you're probably going to find some autistic people trying to do it and needing help

Do my #ActuallyAutistic comrades love their plushies / stuffed animals?

Are they a big part of your life?

What do they mean to YOU?

Who are your favorites? Where are they from? Is there a story?

Introduce them!

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic when I was a kid I had a little crew of stuff buds and at some point my mother decided I was too old and I got home from school and they were all gone.

It took me well until my adulthood to recognize what a fundamental trauma it was for me and now in my 40's I have finally started putting together a new little crew and it's been one of the best aspects of learning about autism and letting myself be me.

@actuallyautistic Filed under,

don't move my stuff

Expectation that my things will remain where I keep them.

Does anyone else have a tendency to get really frustrated and upset when something you keep in a certain location is moved randomly by someone else? And you look everywhere, and can't find it? And the more you look, and as you realize it's not turning up, and you just can't find it, a feeling of utter calamity and dismay, of catastrophic sense of "the universe is no longer the same" sets in.

I really can go into a highly upset state of mind. Some would no doubt call this a meltdown.

@neurotraveler @actuallyautistic I'm not even wild about people picking my stuff up and putting it back in the same spot tbh

Some autistic people find making phone calls extremely stressful and unpleasant and will avoid them at all costs.

Please don’t try and force your communication preferences on others.

@JewleZi @autism101 @actuallyautistic "I don't get it, in this scenario the stairs are objectively the best way to get where you're going, I'm not interested in learning about your so-called wheelchair, I already know the objective truth"
